Getting your car registration renewed is a must in the
United Arab Emirates. If you recently bought a new car then you have two years
of relaxation because under the UAE law new cars are exempt from the RTA
testing for 2 consecutive years. If you bought a used car then you have a year
of relaxation because with used cars the previous owners take care of the
registration for a year. Other people who do not fall into this category must
get their car registration renewed once a year. Road Traffic Authority of UAE
is responsible for the car registrations and a 30 days grace period is given to
the owners before the registration expires.
During
this time, you can repair all damages that were inspected during the test and
should do so before applying for a renewal of the car registration. Failure to
renew your registration will result in a fine of AED 500. Also, make sure the
car has no pending fines or any other damages.
