Whether passing EPA standards or in our actual testing, Trax's competing products did not differ much in terms of fuel economy. Trax's powertrain provides an excellent combination of fuel efficiency and acceleration, worse than the competition. The front-wheel-drive Trax performed poorly in our on-road fuel-economy test, below the EPA number, resulting in a 29 mpg. Not only did Soul get better fuel economy, but it also provided a considerable advantage of 63 horsepower over Trax and accelerated to 60 mph in almost three seconds.
