Honda HR-V 2020 Overview

The words small and spacious do not usually appear at the same time, but the Honda HR-V in 2020 challenges its compact classification with creative packaging. Honda's smallest crossover provides ample passenger space and stunt-foldable rear seats to maximize cargo capacity. Although its four-cylinder powertrain is the opposite of fast and can be rough on uneven surfaces, the HR-V has excell...ent fuel economy and is easy to handle in traffic. Its interior has a soft style but sturdy manufacturing quality and some satisfying conveniences. Although the 2020 HR-V is not as flashy or fun as alternatives like the Mazda CX-3 and Hyundai Kona, it offers unparalleled practicality and versatility.

Honda will enter the highly competitive compact crossover market with the HR-V. Although it was released late last month, it will be on sale in the next few weeks. HR-V will face fierce competition from Nissan Kicks and department head Mazda CX-3. More of these five-seater compact crossovers will enter the Middle East and North Africa, while models such as Hyundai Kona are already available. Honda will offer three models of the HR-V, all of which will be unveiled in showrooms in the region later this month. Entry-level DX models cost AED 69,900, mid-level LX models cost AED 76,900, and topper EX costs AED 86,900. The new Honda HR-V draws power from a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine and can output 140 bhp and 172 Nm of torque. The CVT transmission reduces power through the front wheels.

Exterior

Honda painted a beautiful hatchback shape for its latest HR-V crossover, but it has flaws or two points in appearance. The crossover and coupe trails spin together on the body of the HR-V. The overall appearance is good, even if not very attractive. The dexterous SW, which rises from the door of the HR-V and enters the rear roof pillar, pushes the shape forward (an interesting visual trick), and the rear handles sprout from the high point of the door, where they do not interfere with the airflow. Drawing a small car with a clean appearance is a complicated juggling action. The HR-V fell on the front, especially when too many lines and textures competed for attention, and the Civic car also encountered this problem. In the back, too many body stampings try to avoid smelling a van on the tailgate. Sporty models have black trim and reduced gloss tones, but more body-color paint may do better.

Interior

Elegant, well-crafted interiors may not be attractive, but the HR-V's cabin looks durable enough to stand the test of time. Outward visibility is good to accept passenger space, but the most luxurious features are limited to the top station wagon models. The spacious front seats will provide sufficient head and legroom for all passengers except the highest passenger. The rear seats have a lot of legroom, but the headroom is not as generous due to Honda's sloping roof. HR-V's party trick is its second row of magic seats. When released, the rear seatbacks can be folded into a flat floor, while the floor is low to the ground, leaving enough room for carry-on luggage or easier handling of larger items. The cushions of the rear seats can be flipped up to provide a higher depth between the front and rear seatbacks for taller items. With the rear seats stowed, we managed to put 22 carry-on luggage inside, which is beyond what some large crossovers can afford.

Mileage

On the EPA chart, HR-V proves its power. However, in our actual tests, it did not reach the goal. We haven't tested the 2020 model, so it's unclear how Honda's modifications to the gearbox and optional all-wheel-drive system affect its fuel economy. The all-wheel-drive model we tested in 2016 provided a fuel consumption of 30 mpg in a 200-mile highway fuel-economy test.
