The Fan Noli University is a higher education university and former institute of higher education, based in the Republic of Albania, and established in 1971. Fan Noli has around 4,000 students across two campuses, based in Korçë, and Pogradec, respectively.
The beginning of the Higher Education in the town of Korça, started on the 15th of October 1968 when within the Evening High schoo...l was opened the Evening Filial of the 2-year pedagogical Institute, which began its preparations since the year 1961; it was mentioned for the first time as the consulting center, inside the High school “Raqi Qirinxhi”, this school functioned as a consultative office for the students who attended the Higher School by correspondence. This consulting center continued its work until the year 1966.
The Evening Filial of the 2-year Pedagogical Institute functioned with four different branches of the pedagogical profile. They were: Language and Literature, Mathematics and Physics, History-Geography, Biology – Chemistry.
In the year 1969, there were opened two new branches of the economic profile in the Evening Filial. They were: Accounting and Agronomy branch. In the year 1970 it was opened the Mechanical Engineering branch.
Central European Exchange Program for University Studies :
CEEPUS Program (Central European Exchange Program for University Studies) is a program that promotes staff and student mobility of Central European Universities. Current member countries are: Austria, Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Kosovo. In the framework of this program, the university has won 2 projects. The selected six lecturers will deliver classes and the appointed student will attend classes at partner universities. In addition to the requirements of this project, two foreign lecturers and three students will be part of mobility programs at the University of Korҫa
The University of Korça has already established its profile as a well-known and highly integrated institution; with a contemporary infrastructure in the framework of a modern teaching and scientific research; with an increasing number of staff holding appropriate qualifications; with consolidated study programs, aiming to open new ones, especially those with vocational character, in order to anticipate the requirements of the labor market, the development of Korça Region and national priorities. The university organizes national and international scientific events that relates our university with many other institutions; it is part of many projects that give a great support to the academic staff and students; it has a sufficient number of students, and this number is growing rapidly; it offers learning and relaxing facilities for the students, which will expand in the future; and the number of investments will increase, as well.
The main and the most important mission of the university is sentenced in the famous expression of Virgil "ALMA MATER", "Nourishing mother", which means mother breast feeding her infants and provides spiritual knowledge”. The essence of this mission is actual even nowadays, and it is best expressed in the new Law of Higher Education, which states that higher education is a public responsibility, hence the university should establish, develop, conduct and protect knowledge through teaching and scientific research, in order to prepare specialists and new scientists.
Our University, “our common home", is part of this mission too, so, all of us as a big family, professors, students and teaching support staff, will create a warm and inspiring environment, where each one plays his precious role. We are working together with dedication, in order to face the challenges of the implementation of higher education reform and institutional accreditation, so that the University of Korca ranks with dignity among best institutions of higher education within and outside the country.
