The University of Bechar was created by Executive Decree No. 09-07 of 7 Moharram 1430 corresponding to January 4, 2009 After setting a level of Bechar university center, it is now one of the most prestigious universities of Algeria, it is the largest university in the south west. Bechar University has nearly 12,000 students, 600 teachers and 700 administrative staff, Students are divided into t...wo major campuses: University of Bechar and the university center lahmar. science and technology sector: the faculties of science and technology. economics and management industry: the faculty of economics, business sciences and management sciences. Letters sector languages: the Faculty of Arts and languages. Law and political science sector: the faculty of law and political sciences. Sector Human and Social Sciences: Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. Of all the areas Bechar University offers approximately 110 specialties, divided between the 3 cycles license, Master, and Doctorate.

There are two research facilities; one is in the Department of Chemistry, and the other is an Energy Physics Laboratory.
