For the first time, we’ve brought together researchers in the life, earth and environmental sciences in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences to research the biggest issues facing our planet. Our excellent life sciences research and teaching are shaping new approaches required to address a range of increasingly important challenges faced by the world that span a range of disciplinary ...areas, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria, maintaining ecosystems, and food security. Major initiatives include curriculum renewal of life, earth and environmental sciences coursework across the sciences, and bringing together scientists from multiple disciplines to address global challenges.
What you may not have realised is what an amazing time you’ll have studying in these disciplines. You’ll journey from molecular mechanisms to whole organism processes to ecological scale processes. You can investigate a multitude of life forms from viruses, bacteria and protozoans, to fungi, plants and animals, including us humans. You can unravel the complexities of how these life forms interact with each other and their abiotic environments. Your studies will take you from the laboratory to a rainforest or desert or farm or underwater.
Be astounded and endlessly fascinated by the immense diversity of the life and environmental sciences. But more than just being amazed, you’ll be preparing for a career that can take you around the world, solving issues from medical, agricultural, veterinary and environmental challenges, to using your analytical skills in government, journalism, banking or business.
The station, also known as Warrah, is sited on 3 hectares of land, half of which has been left uncleared. It is bounded on 2 sides by the Brisbane Water National Park. Permits from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service are required before work can be undertaken in the National Park. At present the facility is available to employed research workers and educators from the tertiary education system only. Children under 18 years of age are not permitted to use the station.
