The University of Security and Economics is one of the youngest universities in our country. It was initially established as a College of Economics and Administration – Plovdiv, with a resolution of the 39th National Assembly dated 29.10.2003, promulgated in issue 97 of the State Gazette dated 04.09.2003 and transformed with a Resolution of the 43rd National Assembly, promulgated in issue 38 ...of the State Gazette dated 26.05.2015.
At present, the University has about 1500 students in ten majors. More than 2800 people have graduated and have been awarded a Bachelor’s degree.
Despite its short history, the University is developing dynamically and has won recognition as one of the most prestigious universities in Plovdiv and the region.
Since the academic year 2014/2015, the professional sphere of National Security at the University of Security and Economics has been one of the priority majors in which students are trained. This major was accredited by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (Record № 23/30.10.2013) and thus the University of Security and Economics became the first and the only university in the district of Plovdiv that trains people to work in the national security system – the police, security activities, corporate security and others.
The University of Security and Economics is the first university in Plovdiv that has been awarded Quality Certificate EN ISO 9001:2008 issued by Moody International on 10.03.2006.
In November 2011, the European Commission gave the University an Extended Erasmus University Charter. The charter allows the education of students, the organization of students’ practical training, exchange of lecturers and enhancement of the cooperation and the joint work with universalities in the European Union.
At the University of Security and Economics there is a Career centre which follows the education of students and guides them to work in leading Bulgarian and foreign institutions and companies.
The University of Security and Economics has an installed information system with a touch screen. Along with the detailed university website, it allows fast access to the status of each student and provides news and up-to-date information about the events taking place at the university.
The University of Security and Economics is one of the first private universities in the country implementing a special social programme for its students. It is implemented in the following directions: preferential training at lower social fees for socially disadvantaged students upon the submission of the necessary documents, which is used by 5% of the students; free-of-charge education of orphans and young people on unequal footing; free-of-charge education of children of police officers who have died in the line of duty; scholarships for excellent students amounting to 1000 leva a year per student.
The implementation of the social programme has been guaranteed by signing contracts with the administration of the Ministry of the Interior and the Academy of the Ministry of the Interior for supporting the children of the police officers who have died in the line of duty, which the University strictly adheres to.
As part of the implementation of the social programme of the University of Security and Economics, a National training centre for socially disadvantaged students will be opened at the university, where up to 50 students on unequal footing will study.
