As Newfoundland and Labrador’s only university, Memorial has a special obligation to the people of this province. The Office of the Vice-President (Research) was established in 1992 when total research income was approximately $30 million per year. Since then, Memorial University"s total research income has increased to approximately $100 million per year.
The Vice-President (Research) reports directly to the President and is responsible for the overall growth, development and promotion of the broad range of research activities undertaken at Memorial.
Research at Memorial University is guided by the Research Strategy Framework, which identifies the goals and objectives necessary to grow activity, impact and reputation in research. The framework acknowledges our special obligation to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and the importance of building capacity for research excellence that is both locally relevant and internationally significant.
