There are seven study programmes available: Script writing, sound, editing, fiction directing, documentary directing, ani...mation and games directing, cinematography, and film producing. The school is an art school which means that the teaching aims at developing and supporting each student"s unique talent. At the same time it is important to us that our students learn the craft of filmmaking to ensure their future employment in the professional film- and media industry.
The teaching programme is a mixture of theoretic and practical training and includes a large number of exercises and productions. The students" final project is a film produced on a professional level and presented to the public on national TV. No diploma or former education is in itself a guarantee of admission. All students must pass an entrance test including both practical exercises and interviews.
Director Vinca Wiedemann has headed the school since March 2014. The number of employees amounts to about 50 persons, including teachers, technical and administrative staff. A large number of guest teachers are temporarily employed.
Film school was founded in 1966 and is Denmark"s only state-of-the-art higher education in film and television production. The film school has historically been a focal point for the development of Danish film, both creative in terms of professionalization of the industry. Film school offers an elite education for the largest and most dedicated talent from the growth team.
Film School is an art school where we want to offer a safe framework for students to challenge themselves and to test new ways. Therefore, all exercises and student films in a confidential learning environment are closed to the public, but with open dialogue internally and with regular involvement of external consultants.
Through education, artistic development and cultural institutions, The Danish Film School will contribute to a vital film and media environment, as well as to the development of the future"s professional media productions.
The film school will influence media development in Denmark by developing richer tales, and refining the cinematic expressions that we are talking about. We will do this by breaking down previous differences between the Film School"s departments, strengthening cooperation and synergy and challenging the convention everywhere.
We will strengthen the artistic elements, the experiment and the personal expression of all our education. Documentary, fiction and animation remain key areas that create cinematic tales for a wide range of platforms.
