The history of the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Gunung Jati Bandung can not be separated from IAIN Sunan Gunung Jati Bandung for UIN is a continuation and development of IAIN SGD Bandung. IAIN SGD Bandung was established on 8 April 1968 M coincides with the 10th of Muharram 1388 H by the Minister of Religious Affairs Number 56 of 1968. The Committee then endorsed by the Minister of Religious Affairs with SK-MA No. 128 1967.
Furthermore, based on the Minister of Religious Affairs Decree No. 56 of 1968 officially established for the first time IAIN Sunan Gunung Jati Bandung. By decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs, the committee opened 4 Faculty: (1) the shari"a, (2) MT, (3) Ushuluddin in Bandung, and (4) of MT in Garut. IAIN Sunan Gunung Jati Bandung consist of the Faculty of Islamic Theology, Faculty of Shariah, Faculty of MT in Bandung. Faculty of Sharia and other faculties in Bandung is located in Jl. Small Lengkong No. 5.
