The Perugia Foreigners" University is a the oldest and most prestigious Italian institution specialised in teaching, research and promotion of Italian language and culture in all its expressions.
Founded in the early 1920s, right from the start it symbolised openness, tolerance and a meeting of cultures and peoples, developing into what has become a genuine laboratory of intercultural tra...ining today. Its exclusive identity is thanks to a specialised vocation in teaching Italian to foreigners, along with all its expressions, such as art, literature, the economic and industrial system. The university"s mission is to contribute to the promotion of Italian language and culture worldwide and to knowledge about diversity.
Since the 1990s it has also been offering university and post-graduate courses to Italian and international students.
In fact, the Human and Social Science Department now offers a wide, well-structured range of courses including Italian language and culture, refresher courses for L2/LS Italian language teachers, degree and second-level degree courses in teaching and promoting Italian language and culture, advertising and international relations. The range of courses is completed by post-graduate courses for professional specialisation and research activities, such as 1st and 2nd level Masters degrees, higher level training and research doctorates.
The Library of the University is located in Palazzina Valitutti, a building in “Santa Margherita” urban park, via XIV Settembre, Perugia. The Library is focused on Literature, History and Italian Art History, Etruscan Studies, Linguistics and related subjects. It has about 85,000 volumes and more than 150 Italian and foreign magazines. It contains many manuals and textbooks of the official study programs. The library is a member of the National Library Service (SBN) which means data of the other affiliated Italian libraries can be accessed.
The Library The OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) gives access to the majority of the Library"s collection.
The University for Foreigners of Perugia is home to research operating in the context of scientific areas within it, in particular: Italian Language, Literary Criticism and Comparative Literature, Italian Linguistics, Philology and Linguistics, Political Science and International Law .
The scientific activity is carried out in research projects funded by the University and participation in national and international research programmess. The University is active in terms of knowledge transfer through humanities projects aimed at exploiting the results of research in the humanities and social sciences.
The University for Foreigners of Perugia is a member of Netval "Network for the promotion of Research", an association that brings together Italian universities, the National Research Council and the ENEA with the aim of supporting the exploitation of research results through training activities and networking with institutions, the world of business and finance.
