The predecessor of Joshibi University of Art and Design, Private Women"s School of Fine Arts, published the reasons why higher education was necessary for women:

As an institution connected to an art and design university, this is a leading art museum, boasting a collection of over 2,000 pieces centering around tableaus and carvings. In addition, about 11,000 cultural assets in the form of dyed fabrics are stored here. Orientation is held when new International students enroll. They are provided with information aimed at making their lives go smoothly. Trial exams that determine English-language proficiency are held at extracur- ricular sessions on campus. Students registered under the "student helper" system as volunteers provide assistance to overseas students for their daily lives and offer academic counseling. Students, regardless of their nationality, can take part in this system, if they have an interest in international exchange or study abroad.
