Junsei Educational Institution (JEI) established the Junsei School of Nursing and Welfare in 1967, Kibi International University (KIU) in 1990, Kyushu University of Health and Welfare (KUHW) in 1999, and Institute of Health and Human Services of KUHW in 2005.
Since its founding, Kibi International University has grown markedly in strength, scale and stature. Over the past quarter-century,... it has greatly increased the number of educational programs it offers while simultaneously taking great care to maintain and further raise what have been consistently high standards.
Initially centered on a single school of sociology, additional schools and departments have since been added and kept up-to-date in response to evolving requirements and emerging opportunities.
At Kibi International University we believe that Japan and, by extension, the world, stands at an important crossroads. Whether we take advantage of all the technological and social benefits that scientific progress has brought to us, and open a new era of international friendship and human progress, or whether we remain locked into old modes of competition, rivalry, and selfishness, will be decided over the course of the next few decades. In response to this urgent situation we seek to promote international understanding and development by inviting and sending students to and from all parts of the world.
With important issues such as internationalization, informatization, and population ageing as major, long-term preoccupations and drivers of activity, Kibi International University has over the years become a well-known and highly-rated education, research, and regional support provider. The proud recipient in 2013 of a Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) grant, KIU is now recognized as a significant local, regional and thus national net contributor to society.
Comprehensively accredited by the Japan Institution for Higher Education Evaluation (JIHEE), KIU is today a fully-fledged, vibrant and welcoming university comprising schools of Social Science, Health Science and Social Welfare, Psychology, Agricultural Regional Vitalization, Foreign Studies, and Animation Culture, while an increasing number of promising post-graduate students benefit from advanced study at KIU"s five graduate schools. A further six Distance Learning graduate schools serve a varied and geographically dispersed student body.
JEI has been and remains at all times guided by the knowledge that it has a fundamental duty to prepare students as thoroughly as possible for meaningful, productive life in the modern world; a world which - among other things - is ever more technologically advanced, interlinked and interdependent. At root, students obviously require to be properly readied to meet current and future socio-economic needs. Encapsulating this outlook, Junsei Educational Institution"s mission-statement therefore reads as follows:
"Our aim is to maximize students" individual potential and develop good citizens in both local and international communities".
So guided, JEI-KIU produces technically competent and otherwise reliable, readily employable graduates, able and keen to play genuinely active and constructive economic and social roles and in so doing make positive, life-long contributions to national and - by extension - international wellbeing.
In the spring of 2014, KIU opened a new Department of Foreign Studies campus in the heart of Okayama City. Housed in a modern, purpose-built School of Foreign Language Studies facility, its core purpose is to produce justifiably confident graduates with i) demonstrably effective all-round English language communication skills; ii) accurate, up-to-date elementary awareness of national and international realities; iii) first-hand experience of life and conditions overseas and iv) a sound basic appreciation of Japan"s rich history, culture and traditions.
Having from the outset considered international dialogue and collaboration as being very beneficial for all, JEI-KIU has consistently accorded high priority to international student exchange program facilitation. As a result, JEI-KIU now enjoys mutually advantageous student exchange relationships with a large and still expanding number of universities and colleges in East and South-East Asia, the Americas and Europe. In the years ahead, JEI-KIU intends to further strengthen its ties with existing counterparts and enter into additional agreements with new partner institutions, as and when appropriate.
Working in close collaboration with Junsei Educational Institution"s other schools, a well-equipped, staffed and administered Kibi International University will continue to achieve its goals and realize its objectives with customary dynamism, rigor and efficiency.
