Kobe Pharmaceutical University has a long history, which celebrated the eightieth anniversary in 2012. Since the founding in 1932, the goal of our university has been to educate students who will be able to contribute to the society, and we have produced a great many talented people who play active parts as pharmacists in hospitals, dispensing pharmacies, and drugstores as well as researchers, ...developers and medical representatives in pharmaceutical companies. In recent years, there have been outstanding progresses in medical treatments, and works in medical settings have been specialized. Corresponding to this situation, the system of pharmacy education shifted to a six-year system, and on March, 2012 we had the first graduates who finished the education system.
Now it is necessary to enrich the education system. For that purpose we have cooperated with Kobe University, other universities and medical institutes nearby. And we have tried to train students who have enriched knowledge in pharmacy, abilities of scientific thinking, consciousness to be medical men, warm hearts to understand patients and cooperativeness to work with other stuffs in medical teams. We have also put emphasis on English education and tried to train students to be internationalized using e-learning English education system and enhancing overseas training system in pharmacy. Life-long education is getting more important to follow the rapid progress in medical care; we have established a characteristic education system for it conducted by Kobe Pharmaceutical University Extension Center.
As well as education, research activities are important mission for universities. In our university we have actively developed research projects on clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, tried to contribute to the society by the products, and at the same time to produce talented people who can be active in a broad field related with pharmacy.
Pharmaceutical science is an area of study that explores and elucidates the physical properties of chemicals such as medicines and food that are deeply related to maintaining life and health, as well as methods for their analysis and manufacture, their physiological effects, and their usege.
It covers a broad range, from the development of drugs that save lives and improve health, to public health and food sanitation, and to the functions of professional pharmacists who are directly involved in medical treatment.
In recent years, as new drugs are being actively developed, a great deal of interest has been focused on issues such as their side effects and drug-induced diseases and suffering. In this light, this University is conducting pharmaceutical education based on educational policies in place since our school foundation, that is, pursuing scholarly learning as well as improving one"s character under the direction of our faculty who have outstanding teaching skills and who are passionate about pharmaceutical sciences.
For pharmacists and other professionals who are engaged in work vital to life, it goes without saying that not only is a broad range of knowledge demanded of them, but also strict ethical standards and a rich and varied sense of what it means to be human are required.
This University is intensely pursuing R&D on outstanding new drugs with the highest degree of safety, and furthermore moreover besides in addition, we have been sending forth to medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies personnel who feel inspired to contribute to society.
We are all working with serious intent on study and research to keep and improve protect the life and health of people everywhere.
