Furthermore, in April 2001, we opened the first nursing-related Graduate School (master’s course in nursing studies) in Mie Prefecture, putting in place the foundation of an institution for higher nursi...ng education. This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening, during which time we have produced more than 1,500 graduates as nurses, public health nurses and midwives.
A nursing university conducts research activities to establish new knowledge about nursing science, transmits currently established knowledge of nursing science to students, while also exploring nursing phenomena that have not yet been elucidated. Although nursing phenomena can be pursued from various viewpoints, a faculty of nursing will explore nursing from the viewpoint of working nurses. Therefore, studying at a faculty of nursing corresponds with acquiring the skills necessary for a nursing career.
Our college has achieved an educational environment where students learn not only the specialized knowledge and skills of nursing, but also how to understand people with diverse ideas and various backgrounds, a broad range of cultural knowledge to facilitate communication, an attitude to keenly pursue the kind of nursing that accords with the current situation and health needs of society, the ability to analyze accumulated information, the abilities required to build teams and to work in teams, etc.
Our college, which was founded by Mie Prefecture, is obliged to develop human resources for the purpose of improving the health level in the prefecture. To that end, our mission is the training of high-quality professionals with universal knowledge, who can contribute to the development of nursing and the improvement of health, medical care and welfare in the global society beyond prefectural and national borders.
The nursing scene is constantly faced with new issues due to advances in medical devices and techniques, and changes in society. Their solution depends on nursing professionals and medical welfare workers, and above all, on whether users can share knowhow and develop and utilize new technologies and mechanisms. This is where lies the significance of a nursing university, which establishes new knowledge of nursing through research. Please use our college as a base for nursing that can progressively overlay basic education, graduate school education, and continuing education.
We aim to offer an education based on high-minded humanity and a broad outlook, which will provide our students with the knowledge and skills needed to answer all the nursing care needs of people, to improve their lives from the beginning to the very end. We also aim to endow our students with the comprehensive skills required in nursing practice so that they can operate over a broad spectrum of society to improve people’s health, medical care, and welfare. Furthermore, we endeavor to foster nursing educators and researchers who can make solid contributions to the advancement of nursing research and scholarship.
Educational Aims:
  • To promote the capacity to think and act in a flexible way with a total understanding of people, firmly based on an ethical view of the dignity of life.
  • To impart the specialized knowledge and skills needed to answer the nursing need of people over the entire range of their lifespan.
  • In the areas of health and welfare, to foster the ability to respond effectively as nurses to community health care needs, in collaboration with other occupations.

  • To facilitate action from an international perspective, through the enhancement of intercultural understanding and communication.

The rapidly aging population, changing health care environment, and transformation in the content and scope of nursing activities have led to a requirement for nurses to have, in addition to their specialized knowledge and techniques, pragmatic skills and flexible decision-making abilities to deal with the fast-changing society. Mie Prefectural College of Nursing contributes to the improvement of health care and welfare through its role as a center of research and education by positively promoting nursing education and research which are tailored to its region, training high-quality nursing staff who answer the needs of society in many areas.
