Yamanashi Prefectural University welcomes the community and strives to contribute to vibrant advances through its “glocal” wisdom, the wisdom that combines global and regional perspectives. As globalization expands rapidly, each local community today must tackle issues such as worsening environmental problems, diversifying of market fundamentals, and deciphering the advantages and disadvant...ages of technology, with a global point of view.
Glocal innovation and creativity is essential to enrich our lives, so in addition to basic studies, we also place importance on the practical study of policies to tackle current, regional issues in consultation with local experts in the prefecture.
In a natural, industrial, and socially abundant environment like this, YPU is pursuing the university education “as a stronghold of glocal wisdom, can nurture future practical leaders, and is open to the community and faces local society”, thereby trying to realize a future-oriented “promising and humanitarian” university for students and academic and administrative staff.
One of the important roles of our university is to train students to work for the society and the people who make up that community. In other words, it is our goal to cultivate the ability and skill of individuals who will give full scope of their abilities in the long term to improve the society for the better. In order to attain this goal, we have selected our teaching staff based on their career experience in the real world. Furthermore, we place a priority on general education which, in our opinion, helps students establish their dignity and self-formation. In addition, we offer courses in foreign language communication and computer technology to improve their communication skills and broaden their networks.
In professional training, students will learn current regional issues as well as problem-solving methods. They are expected to master expertise and at the same time recognize the importance of learning scientific methods and “seeing” the whole scheme comprehensively.
Coursework for individual majors emphasize problem-solving strategies and incorporate scientific methods to manage current regional and practical life issues. We teach students to look beyond.
Extra-curricular activities will also work. By attending voluntary activities, students are expected to elevate their independence and learn to take initiative in society through collaborating with people of different backgrounds. At Yamanashi Prefectural University, we urge students to engage in extra-curricular activities. Through collaboration with people outside of the classroom, students learn life skills to succeed and a greater understanding of independence.
To solve the issues in the local communities, it is necessary that both academic institutions and societies face issues together and confer on problems. Moreover, the university shall be open to the public to share its intellectual properties to promote development of local society.
For such occasions, we have established The University Center for Research and Exchange. The center coordinates the community’s demand with the university’s intellectual resources. Besides this, it is concurrently in the process of creating local cultural activities, to excavate, preserve and carry on significant local cultural heritage, in addition to implementing recurrent education to enhance the continued-learning, and admission and curriculum courses for adult students.
The university has established a strong support with by residents of Yamanashi Prefecture. We work hard to fulfill people’s expectations and to contribute to the development of Yamanashi, at the same time, we try to contribute from Yamanashi to the nation and beyond to the world.
