Liepaja University, founded in 1954, is an accredited state higher educational establishment, which implements study programmes at all three study levels: basic studies, Master and Doctorate studies. The number of students is around 2000 divided over around 30 study directions. Liepaja University offers five full degree study programs taught in English: Computer science, Physics, Information Te...chnologyand Information Technology, New Media Arts.

For long years the educational establishment offered education in educational science. Concurrently with teacher training study programmes a broad spectrum of non-pedagogical study programmes has been offered since 1990.
In the course of time the name of the higher educational establishment has changed more than once. On 16 July 2008 Liepāja Academy of Pedagogy became Liepaja University (LiepU).
Liepaja University has a strongly developed further education trend. It was started as an idea for further education and development of our own graduates; now LiepU academic staff teaches people concerned in courses of different fields and intensity and in seminars with the help of professional development programmes and interest education.
Further education goal of Liepaja University is adult education, participation in the development of adult education system and improvement of lifelong education policy.
