CAS Ibri is a public college that offers a range of programs in the field of Applied Sciences. The college, as planned one of the MOHE s Centres of Excellence, awards degrees in Design and in Information Technology.
College of Applied Sciences- Ibri is one of the six colleges of Applied Sciences at the sultanate which are under supervision of Ministry of Higher Education. In early 90s, th...e colleges started as medium colleges under supervision of Ministry of Education which granted Diploma degree. In 1995 and according to the Royal Decree (79/95), the colleges were transferred into the colleges of Education under supervision of Ministry of Higher Education. The colleges grant Bachelor degree for its students. Later in the academic year 2005/2006, five colleges of education; Ibri, Nizwa, Sur, Sohar and Salalah, were transferred into colleges of applied sciences.
In accordance with the ministerial decision (41/2010), Diploma program has been offered in the six colleges since the academic year 2010/2011 College of Applied Sciences Ibri is one of the leading institutions in the implementation of quality assurance standards. The college was among the first academic institutions in passing the quality audit phase through implementing all required policies and procedures which are in line with international standards. Thanks to these policies and procedures, the college was able to provide the work market with required qualifications.
The Ministry of Higher Education is continuing to make an unremitting effort to improve the performance of the higher education system in the Sultanate, so as to achieve high-quality outputs in line with the requirements of the labor market, while taking into consideration the importance of instilling in its students authentic Omani values emanating primarily from Arab and Islamic cultural components.
In this respect, Ibri CAS seeks to implement the Strategic Plan of the Colleges of Applied Sciences, with the principal goal of taking its performance and outputs to advanced levels that will ensure its leadership as a prominent academic institution. Hence, the College pays special attention to scientific research and community service, as well as diversifying and modernizing its academic faculty’s teaching methods. It also takes into account the importance of enriching student academic achievements with extracurricular cultural and sports activities, which have proven effective in this regard.
The guiding light of the above-mentioned efforts is, no doubt, the general policy of education in the Sultanate, principally inspired by the supreme wisdom of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, May God Protect Him.Students admitted into the foundation programme of the colleges of Applied Sciences are required to sit for an English placement test at the beginning of the first semester which is carried out in the Orientation week of the Autumn Semester. They will be streamed into four levels (A, B, C, and D) in light of their performance on the test. Streaming is helpful in determining students skills that require improvement and also in shaping the extra-curricular activities and teaching methods used each level.
The Bachelor of Design program at CAS offers a unique opportunity for Omani students to display ingenuity and innovation.It is a program that educates students in problem solving in the most inspired way, focusing on both the academic and applied aspects of design. Being closely linked with the local industry, the students are constantly being exposed to the latest trends and styles in design. In addition, the department enables them to keep abreast with the most current technical aspects in design in a variety of different mediums.
There are currently three design specialisations being offered at the Colleges of Applied Sciences. They are Graphic Design, Digital Design, and Spatial Design. These specialisations are being offered at the two Centers of Design in Ibri and Nizwa. They are four-year full-time degree programs leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Design.
The Design Program at Colleges of Applied Sciences aspires to be a leading design education provider, by providing world class design education that will significantly add to the economic, social and cultural well begin of the people in Oman.The Design Program at Colleges of Applied Sciences will provide high-quality program which is innovative, responsive and inspiring. Graduates of the Design Program will possess the knowledge and demonstrate the abilities which meet national and regional employment needs and contribute to Oman s economy and society.
The Education Technologies Section works side by side with the other sections at the LRC to develop the use of educational media that will serve the specializations offered at CAS-Ibri. In addition to supporting a variety of activities at the College, the Section provides multimedia services, such as projectors and projection screens.
