CAS Nizwa is a public college that offers a range of programs in the field of Applied Sciences. The college, as planned one of the MOHEs Centres of Excellence, awards degrees in Design , International Business Administration and Communication Studies.
The College of Applied Sciences_Nizwa is a leading university college in higher education. It is an academic institution aims to achieve pr...ogress in the areas of science, culture and thought, and works to enrich human civilization, and expand the horizons of human knowledge, and contribute to the achievement of economic and social development in the Sultanate of Oman.
The College is located in Al Dakhiliya Region in the Wilayat of Nizwa, around170 km away from Muscat. The College started receiving students in the academic year 94/1995 and the first cohort of students graduated in the academic year 97/1998.
The College awards bachelor s degree in three programs, namely:

1. Communication Studies Program in the following majors: - Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, Media Management, Advertising, and International Communication.
2. Design Program in the following majors: - Graphic Design, Digital Design, and Spatial Design.
3. International Business Management Program in International Business Management major.

The College is under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education through the Directorate General of the Colleges of Applied Sciences, which over sees the six Colleges that are distributed to a number of Wilayats in the Sultanate in: Salalah, Rustaq, Sohar, Sur, Ibri, and Nizwa.
College of Applied Sciences-Nizwa (CAS-Nizwa) is one of the six Colleges of Applied Sciences governed by the Ministry of Higher Education. This higher education institution was first founded in 1990 and progressed through several stages. It started as an Intermediate Teacher Training College offering a diploma in teaching. In 1994/1995 the college was upgraded into a College of Education offering Bachelor Degrees in Education (B.Ed). When the College of Education had trained a sufficient number of teachers, to the point that no further need of B.Ed graduates was envisaged, the College was then converted into a College of Applied Sciences launching new degree routes. This conversion took place in the academic year 2005/2006.
The conversion came as part of the MoHE’s continuous endeavours to upgrade the offerings of the HEIs under its jurisdiction thus bringing them into line with the ever-changing demands and ever-rising standards of the labour market.Students admitted into the foundation programme of the colleges of Applied Sciences are required to sit for an English placement test at the beginning of the first semester which is carried out in the Orientation week of the Autumn Semester. They will be streamed into four levels (A, B, C, and D) in light of their performance on the test. Streaming is helpful in determining students skills that require improvement and also in shaping the extra-curricular activities and teaching methods used each level.
The Bachelor of Design program at CAS offers a unique opportunity for Omani students to display ingenuity and innovation. It is a program that educates students in problem solving in the most inspired way, focusing on both the academic and applied aspects of design. Being closely linked with the local industry, the students are constantly being exposed to the latest trends and styles in design. In addition, the department enables them to keep abreast with the most current technical aspects in design in a variety of different mediums.
There are currently three design specialisations being offered at the Colleges of Applied Sciences. They are Graphic Design, Digital Design, and Spatial Design. These specialisations are being offered at the two Centers of Design in Ibri and Nizwa. They are four-year full-time degree programs leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Design.The Design Program at Colleges of Applied Sciences aspires to be a leading design education provider, by providing world class design education that will significantly add to the economic, social and cultural well begin of the people in Oman.The Design Program at Colleges of Applied Sciences will provide high-quality program which is innovative, responsive and inspiring. Graduates of the Design Program will possess the knowledge and demonstrate the abilities which meet national and regional employment needs and contribute to Oman s economy and society.
The Learning Resource Centre at Nizwa College of Applied Sciences plays a vital role in the educational reform initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education. The LRC’s primary goal is to enhance student learning. To achieve this goal, the LRC provides the College community with current materials and resources, access to the Internet for research and study, and educational technologies to promote a learner-centered environment. To date, considerable progress has been made in equipping the Centre of Specialization according to international standards. Assist student and faculty to achieve learning and teaching excellence and support student and faculty development initiatives by utilizing an integrated learning approach and a computerised library management system. The LRC will strive to take full advantage of its information resources and technology in order to best serve the research needs of CAS-Ibri’s students and faculty. The development and enhancement of information resources that can best serve the needs of applied science research.
