Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) is an additional location of Georgetown University, based in Education City in Doha. The University offers a four year undergraduate program in international affairs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) degree. Students have the opportunity to select one of four majors and one of three certificates. Georgetown brought its centuries-old tradition of teaching excellence in international affairs to Qatar with the aim to help build global leaders and analytical thinkers who will make a positive difference in their communities, their region, and our world.
To date, 440 graduates from 51 different countries have earned a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) degree, majoring in Culture and Politics, International Economics, International History, or International Politics. And our student population continues to grow. This year marks the first cohort of students enrolled in the Georgetown University Executive Master in Emergency & Disaster Management with opening and closing residencies in Doha, Qatar.
True to the spirit of Georgetown, we focus on educating the whole person through exposure to different faiths, cultures, and beliefs, and through critical engagement with a range of ideas and points of view. The Qatar campus is a vibrant, multi-national community of outstanding students, faculty, alumni, and staff dedicated to the best in scholarship, learning, and service.
GU-Q scholars continue to shine, both globally and in the region, with a range of original research and publications and involvement in major international conferences. Our in-house research institute, the Center for International and Regional Studies, provides a forum for globally and locally relevant research while encouraging an exchange of ideas and engagement with scholars, opinion-makers, practitioners, and activists.
Meanwhile, our students’ commitment to academic excellence has resulted in achievements including numerous awards, participation in international research programs, and a student-run conference organized annually by the Middle Eastern Studies Student Association.
At GU-Q, we provide a platform for the community at large to engage scholars and hear from visiting speakers through public events that analyze the issues shaping out world. Our executive and professional education programs offer an opportunity for the wider public to improve their skills and knowledge with a range of diverse courses and community classes.

• Academic Excellence - In 1547, the first Jesuits were invited to begin a college in Messina, Italy to allow the young men to receive the same quality of education that the early Jesuits promoted in training their own. • Faith and Justice - The Jesuits made a significant institutional commitment to "the service of faith and the promotion of justice," which obligates us to address the social realities of poverty, oppression and injustice. While not all members of the Georgetown community would base their commitment to justice on religious principles, our institutional commitment to promote justice in the world, grounds and inspires numerous University projects with the underserved communities of the world.
• Interreligious Understanding - The Georgetown University community comprises a wide variety of religious traditions, we support a variety of faith based student groups, a variety of affiliated ministries and numerous interreligious events and services. In addition, the University sponsors the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding; the Program for Jewish Civilization; the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs; and the Catholic Studies Program.
• Community in Diversity - The Georgetown community welcomes and sustains rich diversity among our students, faculty and staff. Approximately 52 percent of our student body are women, 22 percent of our undergraduate students are from a minority ethnic background, and over 2,000 students, faculty and researchers come from 130 foreign countries. At the Qatar campus the students comprise of about 50 different nationalities from a diverse variety of faiths and cultural backgrounds.
