In June 1991, when rapid process of reconstruction of the financial and banking system began in Russia, a need to create International Banking Institute occurred. The Institute created in St. Petersburg was the first particularized educational institution in Russia that organized purposeful training, retraining, and skill improvement of specialists of all levels for commercial banks, stock mark...ets, financial, investment, and other companies. International Banking Institute (IBI) is one of the first nongovernmental universities that was granted a state license, became a member of the International Academy of Sciences of Higher Education. Among its founders there are European Banking and Financial Services Training Association (EBTN), the most prestigious union of the world banking institutions, Stockholm University, International Academy of Science of Higher School and several financial institutions, e.g. Bank Saint-Petersburg and VTB North-West.
From the very beginning International Banking Institute has demonstrated steady growth while developing a diverse range of educational services including programs of Undergraduate, Bachelor, Master, Executive and Doctoral education. It also provides double-degree MBA programs which are carried out in cooperation with Stockholm University, as well as joint programs of Executive education together with International Association of Bookkeepers(United Kingdom), Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA, United Kingdom), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA, United Kingdom), the Institute of Professional Financial Managers (IPFM, United Kingdom) and EBTN. IBI graduates are among the most competitive business professionals prepared for leading roles in Banking, Finance, Accounting, IT in Banking, Crisis Management. At the moment International Banking Institute counts 150 teaching and associate professors working for 14 departments. The Institute also regularly invites professionals fromВ partner institutions.
International Banking Institute enjoys longstanding relationships with Russian and international business communities that with each year become stronger thanks to joint research, guest lectures, Summer school programs and internships. IBI graduates become members of the Institute Alumni Club that since its foundation has been the important link between the Institute and Russian business world. IBI efficient work and achievements have resulted not only in a countrywide but in a worldwide acknowledgement proved by internationally recognized accreditations (certification) of the EBTN, the Institute of Financial Accountants(IFA) and of the International Association of Bookkeepers (IAB), as well as by the title of the best Banking Educational Institution in 2006 by EBTN.
International Banking Institute has partners from more than 30 countries. Among its international academic partners there are EBTN, IFA, IAB, University of Stockholm, Utrecht University and others. The Institute has also established trustful relations with banks, financial institutions and organisations from other fields in Luxembourg, USA, Cyprus, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Italy, etc. International Banking Institute carries out various scientific activities in the forms of both organized research and individual scientific projects. The main objective of scientific work in the Institute is to strengthen the basic position of science in the higher education development. To achieve this goal the Institute:

• Develops the main directions of its scientific activity in order to raise the level of education and training,
• Organizes fundamental researches and investigations aimed at resolving of the most acute problems of regional, national and international scope,
• Provides methodical and informational maintenance of the learning process, expands its opportunities while improving its quality,
• Develops international cooperation through participation in international research projects, scientific events,
• Gets students involved in different research projects and investigations, implements elements of scientific activity into the learning process.

The interactive educational medium with elements of artificial intellect VUECS developed and actively used in IBI provides network support of basic components of the educational process and monitoring of educational activities of students, education in the "computer tutor" mode. The research organizational line in the activity of IBI comprises three conferences including two international and one inter-university conference, as well as the competition of the Institute"s chairs for best organization of research students" work (held since 2004).
The research work of Institute and Llyceum students includes participation in research projects and research methodical work by the Institute"s assignment; participation in the Prof. V.N. Veniaminov"s annual competition of St. Petersburg for the best students" work on economics, control and informatics in the economic field; participation in the competition of grants of the International Academy of Sciences of Higher Education and IBI ; in Inter-university open competition of sites for the 1st year students (on the basis of IBI ); participation in professionally orientated seminars. Students have founded in 2000 the Students Scientific Society ENOS that takes an important place in the scientific events organization as well as in the scientific and research activity of The Institute in a whole.
