Dr. Sung Man Chang (also known as “Min Seok”) founded the Dongseo Educational Foundation in 1965 with the aim of spreading education based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. At present, the Dongseo Educational Foundation has given rise to three different institutions of higher education: Kyoungnam College of Information and Technology (1965), Dongseo University (1992), and Busan Digital Univ...ersity (2002). Together these three institutions – KIT, DSU and BDU – educate around 20,000 students annually and employ over 1,000 professors and staff.
DSU has remained committed to its founding principles of creating graduates possessed of faith, hope, and love in the spirit of Jesus Christ. By offering students the best educational opportunities, it is hoped that Dongseo University graduates will serve their communities through what they have learned as upstanding global citizens.
Since Dongseo University opened in 1992, it has been growing rapidly based on the three strategies of specialization, informatization and internationalization. Now, Dongseo University is preparing for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution with a new vision of an innovative Future University.
With the Christian values of loving God and ones neighbors as a founding philosophy, Dongseo University was established by “Minseok” Chang Sung-man, PhD. The university emphasizes humanistic, Christ centered education to foster competent persons who can serve God and humanity. Its mottos are “truth, creation and service.”
The three strategies of specialization, informatization and internationalization have helped Dongseo University grow rapidly and become widely recognized, especially for the majors of Film & Video, IT, Design, and Digital Contents.
When it opened, the site of the university campus was a stark mountainside. It has now been transformed into a global campus for the 21st century, one that has recently been redefined as a “new prestigious university” and a “future university,” with many prominent figures visiting from around the world.
Over the next century, creativity will be needed more than ever before. The coming era will require integration among talented individuals with differentiated capacities. Through continual adaptation, Dongseo University will establish a new paradigm for educational contents and methods. It will help each student develop his or her creativity to its fullest in all majors.

Dongseo has become a hub university in Asia with a global network of over 198 international sister schools and industry affiliates.This vast global network enables Dongseo students to study and work in locations all around the world. Also, Dongseo University sends 100 students annually to each of its branch campuses in the U.S. and in China to improve their linguistic competencies while expanding their global perspectives.
Various programs already in place at DSU have served as benchmarks for other leading universities. These include convergence education curriculums encouraging interdisciplinary cooperation, class selling programs in which the university and its industry partners work together to meet one another’s expectations, and virtual learning educational strategies such as O2O and VOICE which enhance on-site learning capabilities.
In keeping with its founding principles based in the Christian spirit, DSU encourages students to use the knowledge and professional skills they acquire at Dongseo University to benefit their communities through volunteer services. Opportunities are available through various student activity clubs as well as through university-organized groups such as the International Tech. Corps, the Nakdong River Protection Corps, the Volunteer Corps for Sorok Island and the Local Community Volunteer Corps.
Dongseo offers a new kind of education that is different from other existing ones. At Dongseo University, we are striving to break the stereotypes of education to enable us to be better at discovering and fostering the talents of each student. Our purpose is not only to find their talents, but to provide our students with customized education to develop their value as individuals through humanistic and internationalized education. To this end, the university is establishing an Assembly-type system. This new paradigm for higher education represents an advancement over traditional university systems and involves sharing outstanding educational contents from around the world by offering remote lectures from esteemed experts in foreign countries.
Dongseo University is recognized as a leader in internationalization. Through its various global programs, as many as 1,000 students a year can obtain overseas experiences. Moreover, the university is expanding its global programs in areas such as joint degree programs with distinguished universities in foreign countries.
