Kyonggi University (KGU) was established in 1947 in the form of the Choyang Kindergarten Teacher School. The founder of KGU, Dr. Sang-kyo Son, established the Kyonggi Institute in 1957 and then Kyonggi College on March 1, 1964 in Seoul. The Suwon Campus opened in 1979, and Kyonggi College was upgraded to Kyonggi University on October 5, 1984.
Kyonggi University has 11 colleges containing ...63 programs of study and 12 graduate schools offering majors. The strength in Kyonggi"s academic programs and research lies in Tourism, Hospitality, Arts and Design, Business, International Studies, Environmental Engineering, and Architectural Engineering. KGU teaches some courses in English.
The Graduate School, which was founded in 1979, aims to train students to contribute to their field by leading them to do well-planned research as well as to encourage character building. The Graduate School now offers doctoral degree programs in 48 departments and master degree programs in 69 departments. The University focuses on future-oriented learning, obtaining quality faculty, motivating faculty and student to do research, making its administration transparent, having a good relationship with the local community, and maintaining a competitive graduate school. The University tries to be as problem-free as it should be; it tries to help students be fully prepared for the job market; and it tries to put the spirit of Korea in its right place. The University tries to make its campuses good places to study by making quality information service systems and providing high-tech laboratories.
KGU now includes 10 c0lleges: Humanities, Law, Social Sciences, Economics and Business Administration, Tourism Sciences, International Studies, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Arts, and Physical Education. KGU also provides comprehensive graduate school programs - 69 master"s programs and 48 doctoral programs. Various graduate school programs that KGU offers include Service Business.
Administration, Tourism and Hospitality, Public Administration, Education, Industrial Technology and Information, Architecture, Art and Design, Social Welfare, International and Cultural Studies, Alternative Medicine, and Sports Science. KGU has 12 affiliated institutions, such as the Center for Continuing Education, and 11 research centers which have made a huge contribution to the development of the community in which KGU is located.
In order to provide international learning opportunities for both professors and students, KGU has gone into partnership with approximately 50 foreign universities, including George Washington University, Long Island University, Michigan State University, Texas A&M University in the United States, Far Eastern State University in Russia, University of International Business and Economics, Tsinghua University in China, and Osaka Sangyo University, Kokugakuin University in Japan. About 80,000 graduates of KGU have played a significant role in every field of our country.
The goal of an education is to help students cultivate language and literary capabilities to forge a sense of personal value and to gain social insight by means of an academic pursuit of language and literature. Students are taught to express themselves logically and clearly in chosen realms of expertise, making them future experts in pertinent critical fields of a rapidly changing society.
