Starting life with just 300 students as Chia Nan Junior College of Pharmacy, CNU was founded in 1966 by Mr. Chen Wang. We quickly achieved an excellent reputation for training pharmacists, and as we expanded into the fields of health promotion and management, our student population continued to grow, enabling us to develop into one of the three biggest institutions of technology in Taiwan. In 1...996, we were upgraded by the Ministry of Education to become Chia Nan College of Pharmacy and Science, and in 2000 were formally accredited with full university status, becoming Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science. CNU is now a leading educator of professionals in the fields of pharmacy, health care and science, with approximately 17,000 students. More than 100,000 students have graduated from our programs, and are currently making their mark in a wide range of professions.
We currently offer four-year Bachelor’s degree programs, two-year senior college programs and Master’s degree programs. Courses are offered among the five colleges: The College of Pharmacy and Science, the College of Human Ecology, the College of Humanities and Applied Information, the College of Sustainable Environment and the College of Recreation and Health Management. We have 23 departments, one cross-disciplinary undergraduate degree program and one independent graduate institute.
Ranked second among private Taiwanese universities of technology in Spain’s Ranking Web of World Repositories in 2013-2014. Ranked seventh among private universities in Taiwan by Webometrics Ranking of World Universities in January, 2014. Passed Ministry of Education evaluation of technological universities with flying colors: 23 departments received the highest possible rating. Winner of outstanding school award for the Ministry of Education’s Chun Hui Project for four consecutive years. Awarded prize for “Outstanding Plan” in Stage Two of the Ministry of Education’s “Reconstruction of Technical Education” plan 2014.
Winner of two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals at the invention competition of the 2013 Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart. Winner of a silver medal at the 2013 International Innovation Invention and Poster Competition. Prizewinner in the 2013 OMC World Hairdressing Championships. Silver medalist in the HOFEX international food and hospitality exhibition in Hong Kong, 2013. Gold medalist at the 26th World Innovative Genius Convention and Invention Exhibition in Japan. Prizewinner at the 2012 Applied Computer Technology World Cup. Winner of one gold medal, one silver medal and one special award at the 2012 International Inventions Exhibition and Competition in Nuremberg, Germany. Winner of 11 gold medals, nine silver medals, eight bronze medals and one special award at international invention contests from 2011-2013. Winner of one gold medal and three bronze medals at the World Open Cocktail Championships in 2011.
The CNU College of Pharmacy and Science focuses on nurturing professionals in the fields of pharmacy, biotechnology, and cosmetic science for the benefit of industry and the community, and on contributing to knowledge development and technological progress within these fields. Emphasizing the integration of theory with practice, and teaching with learning, we train our students to become professionals with the skills and attitudes necessary to be competitive in the job market.
The College of Human Ecology was founded in 2000, with the goal of nurturing professionals for the following fields for health and nutrition, restaurant and hospitality management, food science and technology, applied life science and health, and childhood education and nursery.
In response to the increasing importance of integrating the humanities, social sciences, and information technology in modern life, Chia Nan University founded the College of Humanities and Applied Information Technology in 2013, in accordance with the university’s long-term development plan. At present we have one graduate institute and five departments, including the Institute of Confucian Studies, the Department of Applied Foreign Languages, the Department of Social Work, the Department of Cultural Industries Development, the Department of Information Management, and the Department of Multimedia Applications, along with the Foreign Language Center. In the 2010 academic year, our college was awarded the highest rating by the Ministry of Education in the evaluation of professional institutes within universities of technology.
Founded in 2004, the College of Sustainable Environment has four departments and five research centers. Our mission is to promote Taiwan’s ability to participate in international trends toward sustainable development and green industries. We offer programs related to four fields: resource conservation and management, environmental technology and applications, industrial and occupational disaster prevention and safety management, and environmental information technology. As one of the most outstanding universities in Taiwan, we lead the way in research and teaching in these fields.
