Our mission, vision and community focus articulate our position as a specialist health sciences institution. A healthier society though education, research and clinical care. To be a leading higher education institution in the university sector specialising in chiropractic and other healthcare disciplines, nationally and internationally recognised for quality and excellence.
The AECC Univ...ersity College work closely with schools (both primary and secondary) and colleges to support students of any background with the potential to benefit from higher education, offering activities and opportunities to raise awareness. Our student ambassadors regularly attend schools and UCAS exhibitions to talk about the courses we offer, their student experiences, the facilities and the mixed methods of learning adopted at the AECC University College. For a list of schools and UCAS visits we are attending take a look at our School and UCAS events calendar. Not sure what a typical day as a chiropractor looks like? Your students, who may be potential young chiropractors, can visit us and spend a day in our modern clinic shadowing our interns. It’s an opportunity to get a real feel for the career coupled with being in the clinic setting, having other integrated services on hand.
The AECC University College is at the forefront of engaging with others. Our research is presented at conferences around the world and we foster positive relationships with universities, funding bodies, governments, student associations, business and communities both nationally and internationally. We may have a global outlook, but we"re also firmly rooted in the local community and love to get involved wherever we can.
Every year we welcome approximately 50 trainee GP’s to the AECC. Based all around Wessex, the day provides a fantastic opportunity for the trainee doctors to see the state-of-the-art facilities the AECC has to offer and learn about the chiropractic profession. As well as meeting our AECC final year students and picking up some tips to take back to general practice, the visitors have talks from Director of Clinic, Neil Osborne on ‘What chiropractors do?’, and spinal surgeon Dr Hilton on the "Pitfalls in primary care." The collaboration is a great success offering an insight in to both chiropractic practices and how the profession can effectively compliment and assist the work of general practice. We look forward to welcoming more trainee GP’s to the AECC next year.
Our final year interns lead the activities with the children always enjoying themselves, playing our ‘Balanced Diet’ drawing game as well as our ‘Fun Facts about the Anatomy’ game. We also regularly hold school events as part of our outreach programme, giving our students the opportunity to volunteer to visit various schools and colleges across the UK - including the schools that they studied at to talk to students about chiropractic; great CV building experience and an amazing way to promote awareness for the chiropractic profession and spinal health.
AECC University College is committed to developing and maintaining an institution where students and staff from all backgrounds can flourish. Everyone has a right to be treated with dignity and respect, and we aim to provide a positive and satisfying learning and working environment, in line with our Dignity, Diversity and Equality Policy (Add PDF). In admitting and supporting students with disabilities to the chiropractic programme we work in line with our admissions policy and the guidance provided in the General Chiropractic Council’s document Becoming a chiropractor A guide for disabled people (Add PDF - August 2010).
