Dudley College of Technology has played a pivotal role in the provision of vocational and technical education in Dudley borough and the wider Black Country for over 150 years.
The last five years have been particularly remarkable for the college. In 2012 we successfully completed and opened the first two phases of the Dudley Learning Quarter, catalysing the regeneration of Dudley town centre and in April 2015 we opened Dudley Advance I our specialist centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology.
We have come a long way and our success has been noted with Ofsted recognising Dudley College as one of the highest performing general further education colleges in the country.
However we know we still have much to do to meet the needs of our key client groups: to enhance services for employers, to support more young people and adults in to work, to up-skill those in work and to provide the essential skills training for the most disadvantaged in society.
Our vision for the future is this. By 2019 we will be recognised regionally, nationally and internationally simply as ‘a great college’. We will consistently make a real difference to the lives of our learners, raising their aspirations and promoting their prosperity. As a driving force in the regional economy we will improve business productivity, adding gross value. Our stakeholders will be delighted with our innovative curriculum, our focus on technical, professional and higher skills and our inspirational facilities. For young people, adults, employers and wider partners Dudley College of Technology will be the ‘college of choice’.
Dudley Insights are short informative and accessible papers which explain how the college is meeting the key challenges that face us here in the Black Country and in the sector as a whole. Dudley Insight has been designed for our key stakeholders including parents, employers, the Local Enterprise Partnership and of course prospective students.
It is intended to produce a series of publications annually that keep you abreast of the work we are doing to respond to the national and regional skills challenges and address the major government policy initiatives.
The Corporation provides strategic leadership to the College and sets the mission and the framework of policies within which the College operates. While day to day management is the responsibility of the Chief Executive and the senior leadership team, the Corporation has the key role of monitoring, challenging and supporting them.
The Corporation has eleven external Governors who are unpaid volunteers and are drawn from business, professional, public sector and community backgrounds. They bring a range of skills and experience to the Boardroom. The Corporation also includes the Chief Executive, two staff Governors and two student Governors.
The Corporation meets eight times a year (including development events). It also has a number of committees whose membership consists mainly of Governors but also includes co-opted members. These committees carry out detailed work and make recommendations to the Corporation in the key areas of standards, audit and employer engagement.
Catering for over 12,500 learners of various types each year drawn from all parts of the community, Dudley College plays an important part in the life of the community. With an annual turnover of over £42 million, it is also one of the area"s largest employers and is an important part of the local economy.
The Corporation is comprised of people from all walks of life, who give freely of their time to undertake an important role in overseeing the work of the College. They bring to the Boardroom their skills, experience and knowledge of the community. In return, they find that being a Governor is a rewarding role, which brings them into contact with others who have an interest in the many different aspects of education and training.
