The libraries are at the heart of college life. We have fully equipped libraries in four of our colleges in Afan, Brecon, Neath and Newtown. In each location you’ll find the information, equipment, support and guidance you need to help you to succeed in your studies.
All students can receive help from the Study Support Services team. The team will offer a wide range of support that will help students to reach their full potential. The Study Support Services team will also enable students to access and participate fully in their chosen learning programme.
SpLD Lecturer/Co-ordinator – assesses students with Specific Learning Difficulties and other Additional Learning Needs, plans Individual Learning Programmes and provides support to learners and staff to facilitate success. They also provide the assessment needed to make special exam arrangements.
Essential Skills & SpLD Co-ordinator – co-ordinates cross college SpLD and Essential Skills student support. Specialist responsibilities include the implementation of BKSB and later this year the WEST screening tool. Co-ordinates and delivers Essential Skills provision and support for students to include literacy, numeracy and ICT. This is a cross college role.
Sensory & Assistive Technology Co-ordinator – provides support and strategies for students with sensory needs. Identifies and provides any technical resources or assistive technology required for learning e.g. specialist software and laptops/iPads. This is a cross college role.
Student and Business Services Assistant – a cross college role – working with front line staff to draw together key aspects of Study Support Services.
Format Adaptation Services – the College will continue to provide support to all tutors so that printed materials are adapted to meet individual students needs like text sizing for visual impairment, colour sheets for students with dyslexia etc. This is a cross college role.
Study Skills Coaches – will deliver workshops on all campuses to respond to students’ learning needs – develop academic skills, learning strategies and personal skills to facilitate success – each academic school / campus will have a named study skills coach. The Study Skills coach will work closely with the school management teams, course tutors and with the student transition and retention officers. Students will be targeted for attendance at the
Coaching session. The Study Skills coaches can be contacted on [email protected] and workshops and drop in sessions will be advertised using a range of media.
A team of Study Skills Assistants remain in place across all campuses and are allocated wherethere is an identified and recognised learning need (with a Learning and Skills Plan). The team will provide general and in class support to enable access to learning.
Students with an additional learning need/disability can access additional support by contacting the Study Support Services Team.
NPTC Group of Colleges Student Union is for the students, run by the students bridging the gap between students and college management, ensuring their voices are heard at senior level.
Current SU President Harri Mason-Evans is a current A Level Applied Business and Welsh Baccalaureate student, the founder and president of the Colleges’ interact club, works on numerous projects in the College and still finds time to work part time as Swimming Teacher and Young Trustee Project Coordinator Neath Port Talbot Children’s Rights Unit.
