Harding began as a senior college in 1924, when two junior colleges, Arkansas Christian College and Harper College, merged their facilities and assets, adopted the new name of Harding College, and located on the campus of Arkansas Christian in Morrilton, Ark. In 1934 Harding was moved to its present site in Searcy, Ark. The board of trustees approved the study"s recommended change of Harding to... university status, and on Aug. 27, 1979, the name of the institution officially became Harding University. We are, at our core, a Christian university.
The character, example, and concerns of Jesus Christ are the standards that shape us and chart the course for our future. Because of this, an all-encompassing love for God and a corresponding love for people are at the heart of who we are.Harding"s mission is to provide a quality education that will lead to an understanding and philosophy of life consistent with Christian ideals.
We believe in the importance of a global education because we are citizens of the world. Our primary mission in the Office of International Programs is to facilitate students and faculty to learn together in an international environment in order to promote a deeper global understanding and cross-cultural interaction. An average of 48 percent of students participate in a study-abroad experience. Undecided majors can especially benefit from our semester-long programs, and these programs are structured so that students from any major can attend any of them. We have semester-long international campuses located in Australasia, Chile, England, Greece, France, Italy and Zambia, as well as numerous short-term study abroad opportunities. Each program is unique, but no matter which program a student chooses to attend, it is inevitable that he or she will return home with a new outlook on the world.

All residence halls are air-conditioned and have mini-blinds on the windows. All beds in female residence halls are regular twins. All beds in men’s residence halls are extra-long twins, except in Allen where they are regular twins.Each bedroom has a separate connection for the campus DormNet system for each occupant and one cable television connection. Some items may be put on the walls. What they may be attached with is different for different facilities, but usually Command-style hooks can be used. The Residence Life Coordinator for each facility will tell occupants when they move in what may be used in that facility.
Harding University is a private Christian institution of higher education committed to the tradition of the liberal arts and sciences. It is composed of the following academic units: a College of Allied Health, a College of Arts and Humanities, a College of Bible and Ministry, a College of Business Administration, a College of Education, a College of Nursing, a College of Pharmacy, a College of Sciences; and graduate and professional programs in business, education, marriage and family therapy, ministry, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, and theology. The University serves a diverse, coeducational student body from across the United States and around the world, although the primary constituency for students and financial support is the fellowship of the churches of Christ.
