The Collegiate Center is the general education curriculum at Hendrix and begins in the first year with The Engaged Citizen (TEC) and Explorations: Liberal Arts for Life.The Hendrix-Murphy Foundation Programs in Literature and Language enrich the study of literature and language at Hendrix. They bring acclaimed writers, poets, translators, literary critics, editors, playwrights, literary scholars, and theatre directors to campus to give public lectures and readings, teach classes, direct student plays, and mentor student writers.
Hendrix is proudly committed to liberal arts education, a tradition that began in ancient Greece and continues to prepare young people for engaged citizenship and to succeed in a global world.
Hendrix offers 33 majors and 35 minors in three areas - Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences - along with interdisciplinary degrees, such as environment studies and neuroscience.
The word "Odyssey" comes from Homer"s epic poem about the 20-year journey of Odysseus, who is changed by his adventures, learns and grows as a person, and takes an active role as a leader. The Hendrix Odyssey Program inspires similar life-changing experiences for Hendrix students.
Academic advising ensures Hendrix students succeed academically. Each Hendrix student has a faculty advisor who serves as a central academic resource and mentor to the student. All Hendrix academic advisors are full-time faculty members.Academic advisors help students understand the academic curriculum, degree requirements, and academic policies and procedures. Advisors assist students in the selection of an academic major consistent with their interests and abilities.They also help connect students with the opportunities, assistance and resources, and they encourage students to engage in academic and community life at Hendrix.
Hendrix students stay active long after lectures and labs are over for the day. Student activities keep students" calendars full with events and programs for the whole community.
The national award-winning Hendrix cafeteria in the Student Life and Technology Center serves everything from home-style dining and deli sandwiches to desserts and delicacies for a diversity of diets.
Hendrix is a residential college. Living in a residence hall is part of the educational experience, just like going to class. You meet new people, encounter new ideas, overcome differences, and develop long-lasting friendships.

The president and vice presidents form the Senior Administration of the College. Under the direction of the president, the Senior Administration manages the day-to-day operations of Hendrix, working closely with the Hendrix Board of Trustees to establish goals and priorities for the institution.
The Hendrix administration has grown over the years, following a common pattern in higher education. In the early days, faculty handled administrative matters in addition to their teaching duties. But, as higher education institutions grew more complex and student expectations changed, additional staff was needed to provide student services, to manage business affairs, to recruit new students and to raise money to support the College.
Papers and assignments can be difficult in and of themselves, but sometimes getting started with research is the hardest part—especially if you have not done scholarly research in the past. Bailey Library is happy to now offer Research Support appointments with our Librarians and with our Library Associates—your fellow students. Appointments will be half-hour sessions of research guidance and advice on the first floor of the library.
