The Academic Services staff members serve as advisers to students who have not yet declared a major area of study and provide advice and guidance on academic requirements. They offer assistance with study skills and time management as well as utilizing early intervention strategies to guide students in need of support before it is too late. They offer assistance with adjustment to college, facilitate contacts with tutors in the Learning Center and Writing Center, and assist with referrals to other appropriate University resources.
Academic Services also coordinates Husson"s First Year Experience course - the Husson Experience (HE 111) - a required, one-credit course designed specifically to assist first-year students in making successful transitions to college life. The Husson Experience facilitates knowledge of Husson"s academic policies and procedures as well as the academic and social resources needed for success and engagement with the college community. Students also complete an in-depth career exploration project. The Husson Experience course is taught by faculty in each of the University"s Schools/Colleges as well as Academic Services staff.
From developing faculty panels to assist students in exploring lesser known majors, to collaborating with career services to offer career exploration tools, to hosting mini-orientations specifically for students still exploring possible majors, Academic Services staff advises students every step of the way from registering for classes to declaring a major area of study.
Learning at the college level is different and there are better ways to get through coursework. Sometimes it really is, "Study smarter, not harder," and Academic Services staff is here to guide students" efforts.

Therefore, to advance Husson University"s mission of transforming student lives and preparing students for professional careers, Husson offers a range of learning accommodations and services to any student with a disability who requests and qualifies for accommodations.
If a student has a disability, they must provide appropriate documentation of the disability to the Disabilty Services office and initiate contact with that office to begin the process of receiving accommodations. Students will meet with a Disability Services staff member to request accommodations, and the staff member will determine if the requested accommodations are reasonable at the college level. The Dean of Student Success will review any unusual accommodation requests with the dean or director of the student"s program to ensure that the accommodation would not substantially alter any course or program requirements. Each semester, the student will be provided with letters detailing their accommodations to give to their instructors, and it is the student"s responsibility to meet with Disability Services each semester to update and receive new letters. As noted above, classroom accommodations cannot substantially alter any course or program requirements. For clinical placements, internships, laboratory, student teaching and other out-of-classroom experiences, accommodations are reevaluated and do not necessarily match classroom accommodations.
International students will find a full range of support and advocacy services. Academic support such as tutoring and writing instruction is available through the Learning and Writing Centers. A designated Student Success Adviser will assist international students in academic as well as personal advising. Additionally, international students can access Immigration and Visa Services, orientation programming, peer mentors, and Career Services through the Center for Student Success office.
