Through Constellation LVC, you"ll develop the skills necessary for success in the 21st century: writing, speaking, critical reading and analysis, information literacy, quantitative reasoning, intercultural competence, problem solving, and integration.
Our core curriculum features six components that provide opportunities for you to develop these skills at multiple points in the curriculum.
Participate in small, seminar-style classes on special topics and gain a foundation in the core skills essential to your success. Bond with your classmates and mentors. Participate in one course each of your first two semesters.
Choose a topic reflecting your interest and explore that topic from three disciplinary perspectives in the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. You can pursue your own interests within Constellation LVC and integrate information from a variety of perspectives.
Apply your learning in a real-world context, whether through an internship, directing a play, leading a service trip, writing a book, or conducting research alongside a faculty member.
Through any or all of these LVC experiences, you"ll refine your skills, learn new ones, and get a jump start on your career. Your professors will be by your side, guiding you and connecting you with opportunities. LVC’s Center for Global Education will advise you in selecting and applying to study abroad and study away programs.
Courses taken through study abroad programs approved by the Center for Global Education will have their credits/instructional hours and grades converted to LVC equivalent credits and grades, with credit ultimately awarded according to the College transfer credit policy. Students will have planned courses pre-approved for transfer before their study abroad program begins. Students enrolled in a program of study approved for credit by LVC will be considered enrolled at LVC for the purpose of applying for federal financial aid.
LVC graduates are smart, prepared for graduate school and careers, adept at critical thinking and communicating, and empowered to make a difference in the world.
All services provided by the student affairs staff, other than residential living and meals, are available to full-time commuting students. But don"t feel left out! There"s even a specific meal plan designed just for commuting students. Stop by the Center for Student Engagement for details.
The Lebanon Valley College campus has numerous open spaces and lounges for studying and hanging out between classes and activities. However, The Commuter Center, located in the Lebegern Learning Commons on the lower level of the Allan W. Mund College Center, serves as the College"s central commuter hub. The Commuter Center is used for dining, studying, and relaxing, and includes a microwave, water cooler, and refrigerator for students who wish to bring their own lunch.
Additional spaces specifically desirable to commuting students are the newly renovated Vernon & Doris Bishop Library, the Lynch Technology Center, and the LVC Health and Sports Center.
Lebanon Valley College offers students a wide variety of occupations across campus that enhance their academic experiences and assist faculty, staff, administrators, and the surrounding community.
All students at Lebanon Valley College are eligible to work on campus, however, employers are encouraged to hire students with Federal Work Study awards.
Student workers are representatives of the college. It is important to remember this when dealing with members of or visitors to the campus community. Follow the directions of your supervisor when dealing with visitors to your department.
Training may be informal sessions during your scheduled hours or it may be formal, arranged sessions held at scheduled times during the year. Supervisors are responsible for providing adequate training to student workers. Student workers are responsible for attending training sessions and participating fully in the learning process. It is essential that students are competent in their positions.
Student workers may have access to sensitive material. It is imperative that confidentiality and discretion are maintained at all times. Any breach of confidentiality may be cause for immediate dismissal from employment.
LVC students, faculty, employees, and alumni volunteer thousands of service hours each year for numerous area organizations. They buy goods and services that create jobs and support local businesses. LVC employees purchase homes in the community, and are active as charitable board members, volunteer firefighters, and nonprofit volunteers.
