We believe that everyone could benefit from counseling from an objective, knowledgeable, and caring person at some time. For some of us, this time occurs during the college years. The goal of Counseling Services is to help students maximize their sense of well being as well as their academic, personal and social growth.
Counseling Services, which is part of the Student Health Center, is staffed by three licensed Ph.D. psychologists and two social workers with specialized training in college health issues. Counseling Services provides a variety of services to meet your needs, including (but not limited to) individual and couples therapy, faculty/staff consultation, and outreach services.
The Student Success portfolio assists students in crafting a holistic, personal experience spanning their tenure at Rensselaer. By creating connections between student aspirations and the wealth of available opportunities and services, the Success Team fosters full engagement with Rensselaer and beyond. As a keystone in CLASS (Clustered Learning, Advocacy, and Support for Students), Student Success collaborations span across Institute divisions and the five schools.
Major areas of the Student Success portfolio include the Undergraduate Class Deans, First-Year Experience (including Navigating Rensselaer and Beyond programs), parent and family programs, the Graduate Student Experience, supporting underrepresented students, and the Archer Center for Student Leadership Development. Additionally, Student Success manages RPI policies and procedures in regards to excused absences, leaves of absence, withdrawals, and readmission.

The amount of your FWS is the maximum amount you may earn during the academic year. Working up to seven hours a week will allow you to earn your maximum award. Earnings are paid bi-weekly, usually via direct deposit. An offer of FWS is not a guarantee of a job. Your job assignment information will be posted to SIS under the Special Messages tab prior to the start of the semester.
The Office of Disability Services for Students (DSS) assists Rensselaer students with disabilities in gaining equal access to academic programs, extracurricular activities, and physical facilities on campus. DSS is the designated office at Rensselaer that obtains and files disability-related documentation, assesses for eligibility of services, and determines reasonable accommodations in consultation with students. DSS offers information and resources based on individual needs to ensure that students are provided academic adjustments to allow for equal access to a college education at Rensselaer. Our office provides administrative support and advocacy for all students seeking academic adjustments who register and provide the required documentation.
