Figuring out how to pay for college is an important part of getting ready for UTSA. One way is to apply for scholarships, because they provide financial aid that you don’t have to pay back. Although some scholarships are awarded automatically, most require an application separate from completing the FAFSA.
With more than 330 student organizations on campus, students have plenty of opportunities to give back to the community, make friends and live the Rowdy life. UTSA has sent more than 100,000 leaders into the workforce. While at UTSA, student leaders are integral to planning many activities on campus. UTSA students have a unique opportunity to take part in both old and new traditions. From traditions that have been around since the founding of the university, to those created by current students, be part of the traditions that are uniquely UTSA. Students come to the UTSA Student Union to engage in unique social, recreational, cultural and educational activities. Campus Recreation is proud to offer the UTSA community two state-of-the-art recreation and wellness facilities. The Main Campus facility is nearly 185,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor recreation space. A second facility is at the Downtown Campus.

The UTSA Honors College provides a unique educational experience for academically talented students with a commitment to excellence. The Honors College is open to students from all academic disciplines. Honors classes include special sections of regular courses with smaller enrollments and interdisciplinary seminars that bring together advanced students from diverse disciplines. Most honors courses meet core curriculum or major requirements. Honors courses do not require more work, but rather work that is enriched to encourage intellectual exchange and individual thought.
Most honors students can graduate from the Honors College without any additional time requirements. Throughout a student"s program of study, the Honors College emphasizes breadth of academic experience. In the junior and senior year, honors students also become more focused on a particular academic discipline. Upper-division honors work typically culminates in a senior honors thesis or senior honors project under the direction of a faculty member from the department of the student"s major. Incoming freshmen and transfer students are automatically considered for scholarships once admitted into the Honors College, while current Honors students may apply for scholarships on an annual basis.
Founded by the Texas Legislature in 1969, UTSA was commissioned as a university of the first class. Administrative offices for the first UTSA president, Arleigh B. Templeton, were set up in 1970 in Hemisfair Park, and architects Ford, Powell and Carson Inc. began developing a conceptual master plan for the campus. In 1973, enrollment for the first class of 1,113 students met at the Koger Center office park. Classes began at the UTSA Main Campus at I-10 and 1604 in 1975 with 4,433 students enrolled in five colleges. Today, UTSA is an emerging urban serving research institution with nearly 31,000 students, nine colleges and three campuses.
By leveraging UTSA’s research enterprise and strategically located Downtown Campus, Eighmy is currently developing plans to make UTSA the city’s anchor for cradle to career education, economic development and community engagement – efforts that will help all San Antonians realize their dreams and attain prosperity.
