UMSL provides a great environment for students to learn, make friends, and explore new interests. With more than 100 student organizations, an active Greek Life, community service opportunities, leadership programs and multiple cultural events, there is always something to do on campus. The campus also offers students several housing options to meet their needs. Whether you live in a campus apartment or traditional residential hall, living on campus is convenient, fun and a great way to meet people.
Scholarships and Grants are an excellent way to fund your education, but you will need to be proactive in locating, and applying for them. Merit scholarships are offered to students based on their admissions applications and do not require additional applications to be considered. Additional campus scholarships are available through our Competitive Scholarships Application, some scholarships may require additional questions beyond the general application and make sure to check back often for new scholarship listings.
The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program is designed to help undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate financial need by providing meaningful employment that can help to offset educational expenses. The Office of Student Financial Aid assists qualifying students find a part-time position on campus or off campus at an approved community service site. Your FWS hourly wage will be at least the current federal minimum wage and may be based on experience and years of participation in the program. The amount you earn cannot exceed your total Federal Work-Study award. Students are paid for hours worked on a bi-weekly basis.
The Honors College provides interesting and innovative seminar courses, full service academic advising, a First Year Experience program, a writing program, and an internship program. In addition, we provide a published book of creative works (Bellerive), an art show (Celebrating the Arts), a full social calendar from the student association (PLHCSA), a satirical newspaper (Brain Stew), living and learning communities for residential students, and two mentoring programs (SMART and FYE).
