Weber State University"s rich history extends from the late nineteenth century to today.WSU was founded in Ogden, Utah as Weber Stake Academy in 1889. “Weber” comes from the name of the county where the university is located, which was named after John Henry Weber,... an early American fur trapper.
In 1933, the academy was made a state junior college. Following World War II, the college outgrew its downtown campus and moved to the present site on the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains overlooking Ogden and the Great Salt Lake.Weber State College awarded its first baccalaureate degree in 1964. In 1991, the college became Weber State University, appropriately symbolizing its role as Utah’s first comprehensive regional university that also retains a community college mission.
Our students are busy people. Many have jobs, family responsibilities, a commute. But they still find the time to take advantage of the many activities and events Weber has to offer outside the classroom. It’s a great way to connect with your fellow Wildcats.

It is the mission of the Department to prepare these students to function effectively in mainstream academic classes where English is the language of instruction. In doing so, we also seek to familiarize students with American culture and the academic atmosphere of studying in an American university.
To strengthen and enhance the learning environment at Weber State University by engaging and mentoring students as researchers and scholars within and across the disciplines while maintaining the highest ethical standards.Educators, employers and graduate and professional schools all understand the value of an undergraduate research experience. Consequently, the University"s Undergraduate Research Committee and the Office of Undergraduate Research have worked to provide these experiences to students throughout Weber State University.
The purpose of the program is to provide student scholars the opportunity to join a premier undergraduate research community and experience an education where discovery is central to their learning environment. The University Scholars Program is a four-year program that moves students from having limited experience and exposure in a field to the point where they engage, discover, and create on their own under the advisement of a faculty mentor. University Scholars will acquire a deep understanding of research or creative processes, master the knowledge and skills in their selected field of study, and with the guidance of a faculty mentor, have the opportunity to produce original work. As part of this program, the Scholars will be awarded a scholarship and a research assistantship, working closely with an assigned faculty member. University Scholars will be required to disseminate their work, and where appropriate, submit their work for publication.
Students can obtain Undergraduate Research Grant funds for supplies, equipment, travel expenses, and a research scholarship. Travel Grant funds are also available for undergraduate and graduate students to cover expenses related to attending conferences or professional meetings.
Lonald Wishom, WSUSA VP for Diversity 2011-"12 created Taboo Talks because, in his words, "I think that our country has reached a point where everyone is so eager to claim that we are in a post-oppression society that it"s hard to discuss issues of oppression. It"s rare to engage in dialog about issues such as race, sexuality, religion, and politics without worrying about being viewed negatively by people with differing views; this results in a lack of these discussions and a lack of understanding differences. I envisioned Taboo Talks being a safe place to discuss differences in ideas in an effort to inform and educate WSU students on different views.
Diversity and Inclusive Programs looks forward to supporting the continuation of this program with each new WSUSA VP for Diversity & Unity as we seek to establish connections and build community at Weber State, in Utah, and across the globe.
Community Awareness collaborates with the community organizations and entities to create events that promote Diversity and Inclusivity. The goal of the programmed events are to provide access to community organizations in providing a platform to discuss issues within the community, educational opportunities, and resource activities to students on a monthly basis.
In collaboration with Weber State University"s LGBT Resource Center, LGBTQ+ Awareness programming shed light on issues and concerns of the Queer & Transgender student body. The events advocate against homophobia and other forms of oppression, as well as other issues and concerns of LGBTQ+ students on campus and all members of the Queer & Transgender community.
