Minsk State Linguistic University (MSLU) is a recognized leader in the field of linguistic education in Belarus.Today, MSLU provides professional training in 18 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Turkish, Korean, Swedish, Polish, Czech, Dutch, Persian, Hebrew, Russian and Belarusian. Finnish will soon be added to their number.
We offer seven a...cademic majors: interpreting and translation, teaching, communication services, public relations, international (political) relations, international (economic) relations, and international tourism. We also offer 18 specializations, including world literature, linguistic computing, civilization studies, literary translation, technical translation, simultaneous interpreting, communication technologies in business, graphic design and others.
MSLU also offers master’s and doctoral programmes in various research fields. We were the first to introduce practically-oriented master’s programmes in four emerging fields (interpreting and translation studies, communication management, data treatment and analysis, and new technologies in foreign-language teaching).
The University is a coordinating centre for teaching activities and scholarly research carried out by foreign-language departments in fifteen higher education institutions and seven teacher training colleges in the Republic of Belarus. The republican methodological centre located at MSLU creates standardized academic programmes and curricula and defines educational standards in foreign-language teaching for all levels of education.
MSLU is actively involved in the development of the innovation policy in the field of foreign-language education in the Republic of Belarus. A variety of academic programmes and specializations offered by MSLU allows the University to meet the current demand in qualified young specialists in the humanities, philology, linguistics and foreign-language teaching.
Our University is a member of the Conférence Internationale d’Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes (CIUTI) as well as of the International Association of Universities which have signed the United Nations Memorandum of Understanding.
MSLU plays an active role in the Association for the Languages and Cultures of the CIS members and is a permanent member of the International Association of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL). A unique educational and research project called Lingvapark initiated by MSLU aims to use the University’s high intellectual potential in the field of linguistics. One of its major objectives is to find efficient solutions to the problems and challenges of language education and cross-cultural mediation, particularly in the socio-economic and production spheres. It also aims to provide high-quality linguistic assistance in the marketing of merchandise and services in any language for which there might be a demand, including the rare ones.
A team of highly qualified teachers and professors (781 persons) employed at MSLU possess invaluable professional, educational, methodological and research experience. MSLU also employs teachers from the USA, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, Sweden, China, Korea, Iran, Turkey, Russia and other countries.
Innovative approaches to language teaching, a wide variety of educational services and resources available to students, modern research facilities have contributed to the growing status of our University on the educational arena. As a result, the number of our international students is increasing annually. Moreover, there is a growing attention to our university from the diplomatic bodies of many countries of the world.
MSLU has significantly improved the quality of its educational services through considerable investments in its technical modernization. Our computer equipment and software meet all the latest requirements. There are more than 1200 modern computers on our premises; classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and multimedia systems. Automated document processing and library services as well as new internet centres are increasingly available; there are also completely renovated laboratories, language and cultural centres that offer a wide variety of valuable educational resources.
International applicants are enrolled on a contractual basis. As an international student, you must pay your tuition fees. The contract guarantees your admission to the chosen academic programme and accommodation in a comfortable room (shared with two other students) in a students’ housing facility. Our halls of residence are located in the historical centre of Minsk, the capital city of Belarus. Thus, in addition to University studies, you have an opportunity to get acquainted with the centuries-old history of the capital city as well as the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Belarusian nation. Minsk is a beautiful and green city with a lot of parks and public gardens, museums and galleries, concert halls and theatres. The National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus ranks very high among the theatres of the former USSR and is second only to the world-famous Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. In the immediate vicinity of Minsk you will find a lot of historical sites and tourist attractions that are worth visiting. You can also travel to other cities in Belarus, each one with its own unique character and interesting sights. For example, in Vitebsk, you can visit Marc Chagall’s birthplace museum devoted to the life and art of this remarkable world-famous painter; in Brest, you will learn about the heroic defence of the Brest Fortress during the Second World War; in Gomel, there is a magnificent palace surrounded by a beautiful parkland dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Minsk is one of the greenest and cleanest cities in Europe. Its population today is nearly two million people.
