The Film Academy of Miroslav Ondricek in Pisek (FAMO) is an independent private film school, which offers the possibility to study Film Art in a beautiful, inspiring and traditionally cultural town Písek, situated in the region of South Bohemia, Czech Republic.
FAMO in Písek educates and trains students to a professional level with specialisations in Screenwriting and Directing, Cinemat...ography, Sound, Editing, Production and Animation. The programme aims to equip graduates with a high level of technical competence and craft skills as well as to develop theirs creative skills to the highest artistic level possible. The Academy provides convenient environment where students can gain an understanding of underlying aesthetic principles of filmmaking and teaches to apply, to explore, to experiment and even to challenge those principles in the real world.
Hands-on experience and team-work are both given a strong emphasis throughout the study programme. Therefore, the course includes ongoing practical exercises with focus on specific skills such as studio lighting, camera work or editing techniques.
Within the IFS (International Film Studies) programme we offer:

• Certificate / Diploma Film Course (1 or 2 semesters)
• Bachelor of Arts Degree Programme (6 semesters)
• Master of Arts Degree Programme (4 semesters)
• Erasmus+ exchange mobilities (1 or 2 semesters)

Aim of the studies is to:

• Forward professional knowledge and cultural outlook.
• Deepen aesthetics and dramatic feeling.
• Prepare the students for praxis.

International Film Studies (IFS) at the Film Academy of Miroslav Ondříček offers three study programmes, listed below. The Film Courses and Master"s Degree Programme are taught entirely in the English language. The Bachelor"s Degree Programme is offered in two different forms; A) the whole programme is taught in English, or B) This variant is designed primarily for Slavic students, with the first year curriculum conducted in English, the second year partly in English and partly in the Czech language, and the third and final year entirely in the Czech language. Both - Bachelor and Master of Arts - Degrees are accredited by the Czech Republic´s Ministry of Education and are therefore recognised throughout Europe and the European Union (according to the Bologna Declaration and subsequent declarations).
All our teachers are professional filmmakers who have been awarded for their work, within and outside the Czech Republic. Our academy"s team of teachers exceeds the number of it"s international students, and therefore we are able to offer a very rare and personalized approach to studying film. Our students gain invaluable contacts, and we can proudly boast a 100% employment rate of our graduates.
The one-semester ‘CERTIFICATE FILM’ serves as an introduction to the basics of all the important disciplines of filmmaking. The course focuses on theory and simple practical exercises. The final project is called The Meeting, during which students apply their newly acquired knowledge to develop a simple story in a visually understandable way.After completion of the course the participant should be able to develop an idea from the script to the final visual adaptation, using basic directing, production, sound and editing skills. Students who successfully complete this course can either choose to receive the graduation certificate (Film Course Certificate) or extend their studies to include the Spring semester, and complete the Diploma Film Course.
Having fulfilled the Fall semester"s requirements students continue to deepen their theoretical knowledge
gained in the first semester, and develop their practical filmmaking skills in the Spring semester. The final project, The Silent Etude, offers students the freedom to experiment with more complicated storylines, without the pressure of dialogues and difficult sound design (only background music is used).After completion of the course the participant should be able to develop an idea from the script to the final visual adaptation, using basic directing, production, sound and editing skills. Graduates will master how all areas of AV creation should be processed to become a cohesive and comprehensive whole. Students who successfully complete this course can either choose to receive the graduation certificate (Film Course Diploma) or extend their studies at FAMO and continue in the Bachelor"s Degree Programme from the 2nd year of study.
During the three years of study, students focus predominantly on the following disciplines: Screenwriting, Directing, Set Design, Production, Cinematography, Sound and Editing and Animation. This is in order to gain an overview and broad understanding of Film and Television Production.Subjects offered include Journalism, Storyboard creation, Film History, Film Music, Work with Actors, as well as various workshops.
PRAXIS Great emphasis is put on hands on experience and teamwork throughout the degree. Therefore, course work includes ongoing practical exercises that focus on specific skills according to the study programme.At the end of each semester, students work in crews to create a short film which aims to develop an idea from concept to final product using their acquired technical and creative skills. Our student"s films regularly receive international awards at film festivals across the globe.

• The first level project is a 5-10 minute, short film without dialogue, shot on a DV camera.
• The second level project is a 10-15 minute, short film with dialogue and shot on a DV camera.
• The third level project is a 15-20 minute, short film with dialogue and shot on a DV camera.
