We train for all areas in the Clothing and Textile industry including production, sales and communication and prepare students for jobs as designers, patternmakers, sample room managers, buyers, press agents, product managers, marketing directors, fashion editors, photo stylists, creative directors.
ESMOD is inseparable from the name of its founder, Alexis Lavigne, Master Tailor in the Paris of the nineteenth century, who was notably tailor to the Empress Eugénie. He was the inventor of many patented tools still used in sewing, including the model"s bust and the tape measure.
Alexis Lavigne"s eagerness to turn his innovative know-how into theory led him to write numerous articles on the fashion of his time. He also developed unique cutting methods that were to give rise to the ESMOD Editions. The published works, updated every year, have now become the foundation of ESMOD teaching.
His investment in the transfer of expertise caused him in 1841 to open the first Lavigne cutting courses, ancestors of the ESMOD school, where apprentice tailors would come to train.
In 1880, on the death of Alexis Lavigne, his daughter, Alice Guerre, took over management of the school and opened it to a new public: young ladies.
As early as 1900, the Guerre-Lavigne school already aspired to export its expertise internationally in order to enrich its methods by making contact with other cultures and crafts.
The 1960s marked a turning point in the tuition provided by the school when the notion of design appeared, playing its part in the evolution of the profession of couturier. In 1976 the École Guerre-Lavigne took the name of ESMOD.
In the late 1980s, fashion shifted towards Marketing. So in 1989, the ESMOD group created the ISEM, the first business school dedicated to fashion, in order to meet new market demands. From its inception, ISEM has thus had the vocation to train marketing, sales and communication managers.
With the foundation of ESMOD Tokyo in 1984, ESMOD established its international growth strategy with a true desire for coherence not only in its teaching approach but also in cultural diversity. The ESMOD group now consists of 20 schools in 13 countries.
Due to its rich history, Paris is incontestably one of the greatest capitals of Fashion, and more broadly of Arts and Culture, with inescapable appeal. The greatest designers have had a considerable influence in the city, which now extends internationally. It is at the centre of this creative and economic effervescence that ESMOD & ISEM Paris have been training future players in fashion for more than 175 years.
The school’s main campus is located in the 9th arrondissement on rue de La Rochefoucauld, in the Nouvelle Athènes neighbourhood, close to Boulevard Haussmann and its Department Stores (Les Galeries Lafayette and Le Printemps), the Pigalle-Montmartre neighbourhood, with its increasing cultural vibrancy, and the Opéra-Madeleine neighbourhood, another jewel of luxury shopping. In a magnificent private villa, built around a central atrium in the Eiffel architectural style, the school catapults you into a heady atmosphere of history and creativity.
The students of the "Fashion Design & Creation" (ESMOD) courses find all the necessary infrastructures to breathe life into their creativity: a boutique offering design and pattern-making supplies at exclusive prices and the availability of professional sewing machines ... A documentation centre and a fabric library, managed by a former employee of Christian Lacroix, providing an inexhaustible source of inspiration throughout the year. A conference room is also available so that students can meet fashion professionals during speed recruitment sessions or at the many conferences offered by the school throughout the year.

Situated on the border of Greater Paris, close to the headquarters of Chanel, Hermès and major Parisian cultural institutions (La Philharmonie de Paris, the Grande Halle de la Villette, etc.), the Pantin campus is home to students on "Fashion Business" (ISEM) courses as well as the third-years on the "Fashion Designer" (ESMOD) programme with whom they will work on Team Building.
In a magnificent building built in the 1920s, which once housed the former branch of the Banque de France, with an area of 3,500m², around a bright atrium of 650m², enhanced by a partial mezzanine and modular rooms, the school aims to offer its students a unique environment. Cutting-edge equipment is available in specially adapted spaces: a large capacity multipurpose room for conferences or fashion-focused events, and equipped outdoor terrace areas complete this setting designed for the well-being of all.
