The University of Angers harks back to a very long history of universities in the city. By 1080, the “Studium” or the School of Angers was already a renowned scholarly institution. It received the title “university” in 1356, and in 1364, Charles V granted the university its autonomy and privileges. The fi rst statutes were drawn up in 1373. By 1450, the university had colleges in Law, T...heology, Arts and Medicine, which attracted students from the whole of France. Sharing the fate of other universities, it was abolished during the French Revolution. Angers remained an important focus of intellectual and academic activity, and higher education persisted, with free, public courses in Medicine as early as 1796, and with the creation of the School of Medicine of Angers in 1807.
On March 25th, 2016 the University of Angers has welcomed 20 French and US PhDs, during the third FADEx edition on the subject of Nanoparticles for Medicine. This has been made possible thanks to the Erasmus Mundus NanoFar program for which the MINT laboratory has been receiving subsidies from the European Commission.
The FADEx delegation, run by the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States, aims to enhance scientific exchanges between American and French Ph.D. students working in the same field of research in order to encourage the development of French-American collaborations. This program also serves as an opportunity for American students to better understand the French research system.
For 3 years now, FADEx has given PhDs the opportunity to present their work to their peers in an international conference setting. Students are also invited to attend lectures given by experts in their area of research.
20 PhDs both from American and French Universities (namely from the universities of Angers and Nantes) have been selected to participate in this ‘Tour de France’ of nanomedicine’s major players for which the University of Angers is particularly proud to be part of.
The University of Angers, with active exchanges with every continent in the world, was among the fi rst to develop strong links with Eastern Europe, and participates fully in the European Union international programmes. Our network of universities contributes to our eff ectiveness throughout the world.
The university Cultural Service was created in 2005 and off ers a varied programme of quality events and services. The “Espace Culturel” houses a 350 seat theatre for professional and student productions which has been particularly favoured by the association for the promotion of jazz in the Pays-de-la-Loire region.
Students can take advantage of technical help and counselling in their individual or group projects and can also earn optional instructional credits in culture.
