CBS was founded in 1993 as a pure business school and is characterised by a wide range of English-language study programmes. It was amongst the first universities in Germany to offer the internationally recognized Bachelor’s degree.
Today the portfolio comprises English and German-language Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes with a focus on management as well as MBA and Executive MBA programmes. The excellent study conditions are based on small learning groups and intensive supervision by the professors and lecturers.
The task of CBS is to prepare students for career opportunities in business. That is why both the current state of research and strong practical relevance are vital parts of the courses. This is complemented with application-related knowledge, business games, internships, soft skills courses and business projects, which usually take place in cooperation with well-known companies. Students can also opt for working with conCBS, the Cologne Business School management consultancy with student participation. Thanks to the CBS’s extensive business community network and regular career events on campus, students also have the regular opportunity to talk to company representatives.
Those who prefer to get deeper into research can actively participate in research projects and have the chance to publish results. Eight internationally networked, interdisciplinary research clusters at CBS are available for this purpose. Obtaining a doctorate is also possible.
Canada, Australia, Mexico, Japan, Netherlands, France … our students spend semesters abroad at more than 100 partner universities all over the world, supported by the CBS International Office. This internationality is also a vital part of campus life as students come from around 75 nations. Numerous professors and lecturers also have international backgrounds. That is why English is also spoken outside of the lectures. This creates an international atmosphere and promotes intercultural competence – skills that are in demand in international companies.
As a private university, we see ourselves as a partner and service provider for our students. That is why we offer a wide range of consulting and services. This begins with study counselling services, information events and trial lectures. The Career Service supports the transition into working life with a wide range of services, from job application advice over internal career fairs up to networking.
With a population of over 1 million and around 100,000 students, Cologne is the German metropolis with the highest percentage of students. You can see this in the cityscape, and you can see it in the infrastructure for students – from the extensive range of university sports activities to the party scene. The campus itself is located in the “Südstadt” district of Cologne, one of the nicest neighbourhoods in Cologne.
On the occasion of our 25th anniversary, we will focus on the topics of charity and social responsibility at CBS in 2018. Small but impressive – this is the impression gained at the Cologne Hardefuststraße campus. Bright, friendly rooms, PC workplaces, an in-house library, a cafeteria, a garden and also wireless Internet access everywhere. You should come and take a look yourself.
Student life is more than merely lectures, exams and homework. Eating and drinking, culture and sports, student initiatives and general educational projects are also included. The Cologne Business School students enjoy a wide range of offers: With its U2B- and CI team or campus radio exists as initiatives “by and for students”.
The relaxed campus, the modern business lounge and also the close-by Volksgarten [park] entice you to be active and do something with your fellow students, also after lecture time.
At Cologne Business School the catering is also on a high level. Relax between lectures, recharge your batteries and meet up with your classmates in our cafeteria. CBS is not a university for the masses, so why should its canteen be any different. Instead, look forward to enjoying yourself in a petite, yet exquisite cafeteria. Operated by our renowned catering partner, “Hennings Catering” also headquartered in the Südstadt of Cologne, the team stands for freshness, a variety of choices and healthy dishes – and consistently caters to a demanding clientele. Companies wanting to offer food at the Cologne Food Fair, Anuga also book Hennings Catering for their stands. Such experience serves not only when catering to the satisfaction of food professionals.
Throughout the day the CBS cafeteria team provides students with food, starting with breakfast, coffee, lunch, snacks and high quality desserts – and at student-friendly prices.
For those who missed breakfast at home, you can still grab a sandwich, fresh fruit (also fruit salad), scrambled eggs and coffee before your first lecture.
At lunchtime you have a selection of meals that change daily to choose from. There’s always a soup, vegetarian meal or pasta dish available as well as the salad bar. And for those looking for something savoury, you’ve come to the right place. Here are a couple examples: to start off light, there are dishes such as vegetable stew and potato leek soup with cheese; moving on, farfalle pasta with arugula, cherry tomatoes and pecorino or pasta al ragù cover the culinary middle ground. And with dishes like chicken tandoori or bratwurst with creamy savoy cabbage, you’re clearly heading in a hearty direction.
In the afternoon, cakes, crêpes or waffles are served – for a boost of energy before a last round of lectures. Sweets, chocolate bars and sandwiches made on fresh country bread are also part of the daily selection.
A small highlight on warm days: enjoy the cafeteria’s outside terrace and our popular campus gardens, where of course, you can also sit and eat. By the way, there is also ice cream in the summer.
