Welcome to the Karlshochschule International University homepage! We appreciate your interest in our university and our international Bachelor"s and Master"s programs.
We view our students of today as those who will shape the world of tomorrow. That"s what we prepare them for. We are living in a time of rapid global change. Be it digitization, internationalization, cultural shifts or clim...ate change – they all challenge us and our open society. Almost every second job in Germany is dependent upon international trade. There is no global transformation that leaves our lives, our economy or our future unchanged. International managers therefore need to have a global mindset to be able to differentiate and integrate a diversity of knowledge. Bringing lasting successful economic structures to life requires strong cognitive personalities with a cosmopolitan orientation.
This is why the focus of our Bachelor programs is on national and international markets, linking foreign languages with a more in-depth knowledge of important economic and cultural regions worldwide, business projects, a practical phase and a semester abroad. We want to support our students in starting a career in a field of the future in six semesters. Prerequisites for doing so are positive and long-term thinking, future-oriented, respectful coexistence and a high level of motivation.
The Bachelor of Arts entitles students to take up a Master"s program at German and international colleges and universities. Our own Master"s program in Management combines management competencies with knowledge from two out of eight specializations from which to choose. The intensive connection between teaching and practice, personal development, international and intercultural aspects of the program, lecturers with practical experience, small study groups and personal, uncomplicated interaction between teachers and students contribute greatly to academic success. Through ongoing change of perspective and continuing education in responsibility, empathy, sustainability and expertise, our Master"s graduates assume managerial roles and leadership functions in companies as well as responsibility for and in society.
The unlimited officially accredited Karlshochschule is published in the 2014/2015 CHE ranking in the weekly magazine "Die Zeit", among others, distinguished as one of the best universities. Karlshochschule was re-accredited by the science council for 10 years in 2010. In 2014, FIBAA re-accredited all eight Bachelor programs in the field of management with the premium seal. The Bachelor programs in the field of society were accredited in 2015 according to the same criteria.
Karlshochschule maintains a manageable size. Every lecturer knows his or her students personally and supports them individually; this distinguishes us and ensures quality. At the same time we place great importance on regional, cultural and economic integration in society. We always think of responsibility in a sustainable way which also pertains to our responsibility to students and the college at our location in Karlsruhe.
We are a state-accredited university of applied sciences with approx. 650 students, 16 professors and a network of lecturers from various industries and disciplines. As such, we see ourselves as an international and intercultural hub for collaboration and experience. With our interactive and (co-)creative approach to teaching and learning, we not only offer profound professional university education but also really focus on the critical thinking and the personal development of our students. Because only those who incorporate and embody responsibility in management and society, those who live it, can make a genuine difference. For a new holistic (re-)thinking and (re-)doing.
Our didactic approach is characterized by a triad of instruction, construction and reflection in the individual modules and units. With the aid of self-regulated, discovery-based and playful learning and based on a foundation of concentrated and sound knowledge, the students shall be enabled to make their own learning experiences, to integrate their knowledge and skills with previous knowledge and experiences and to build their own qualification and competence profile. We seek to enable them to compare their experiences and perspectives with those of others and to critically question them.
The ability to change one"s perspective is an important educational objective of our University. This objective is supported by our interdisciplinary orientation. Learning contents are to be conveyed from the points of view of various disciplines and, if possible, through an interaction and discourse between representatives of different disciplines. The disciplinary diversity of the staff is an advantage that was intentionally created. The concept of integrative modules with a standardized module examination requires and supports close interdisciplinary exchange.
By cooperating with the business community, we pursue the strategic goal of integrating theory and practice as much as possible. The strong practical focus is underlined by the role of the Karlsruhe Chamber of Industry and Commerce as a founding partner and the participation of representatives from the business community in the University bodies. Our future goal is to further institutionalize the multitude of bilateral and informal cooperation and to increasingly procure third-party funding in the context of research cooperation projects with partner businesses.
We distinguish ourselves by assigning a central role to the personality development of the students – not least with regard to leadership ability. Elements of personality development and the acquisition of key competences shall be an integral part of all curricula. In doing so, we pursue the strategic goal to individualize our products, programs and mentoring offers to such an extent that the students can be addressed according to their individual learning types and develop their different talents as well as their personality in an optimum manner. Modern teaching formats such as eLearning and blended learning shall be used in line with the intention of the individualization strategy.
We consider ourselves an international institution with a cross-cultural orientation. Our internationalization strategy focuses on Central and Eastern Europe, Arab countries, South-East Asia, Latin America and the Anglo-Saxon countries. We offer the languages of those regions as second foreign language (English: first foreign language) and organize study programs taught in English as well as study programs where spending time abroad is mandatory. We seek partnerships with comparable universities abroad in order to enable student and academic staff exchanges and cooperation in the field of research. We make continuous efforts to increase the percentage of foreign professors, guest professors and students. We aim to enhance the mentoring for and the integration of international students.
