HoMe was founded on the April 1, 1992. The campus, however, has been an institution of higher education since 1954. Up to 1993 the technical college “Carl Schorlemmer” was located here.
Today the 44-hectare-area is home to 28 buildings or parts of buildings which have been extensively refurbished. It also has sports facilities and there are extensive green areas.
13 Bachelor"s a...nd 10 Master"s programs are offered in four departments. In addition, a number of continuing education programs are available.
The campus in Merseburg offers excellent possibilities for free time activities. The university has a theater with its own stage and mask workshop and very extensive sports facilities suitable for sports competitions. Three student clubs offer a varied evening program on almost every day of the week, there is child care provision for the young generation, and both Protestant and Catholic student communities are active here.
“Life-long” learning is the key element to the information and knowledge-based society of the 21st century. More flexible working worlds require a willingness to bring knowledge and skills up to the latest standard. HoMe offers a variety of opportunities for continuing education which are open to all those who are interested.
HoMe Academy unifies general opportunities for continuing education with the Seniorenkolleg (education especially for senior citizens), language courses and projects in cooperation with different societies and institutions dedicated to socio-political subjects and those of general knowledge. Not only do we offer courses and seminars; we also offer entire lecture series during the semester.
The individual institutes or private research institutes offer these study and certification programs. The target audience consists of students, employed people and small and medium-sized companies from the region who wish to refresh or enhance their knowledge. We develop special programs for the employees of DOW Olefinverbund GmbH and Sonotec GmbH in close cooperation with these companies. You will find the individual offers on the following pages. Our Buddy Service is designed to make it easier for our international exchange students to quickly get accommodated and feel at home in Merseburg. The “buddies” are German and international students from the university who are familiar with Merseburg and the university. They help incoming international students with the formalities of registering with the city and daily life issues. They also organize trips and other social events.
The extra occupational certification program in Chemistry has been developed in cooperation with the Bildungswerk Nordostchemie e.V. and HoMe. This continuing education program lasting four years focuses on the scientific basics of inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, and technical chemistry. The content of the course follows the requirements for employees in the chemical industry. It allows extra occupational students to qualify for a profession in the mid-level management of the chemical-pharmaceutical industry. Upon completion of the certification program the academic degree “Bachelor of Science” may be acquired without further costs.

The program in Chemical and Environmental Engineering has a long tradition in Merseburg. Thus, you will profit from education on a high level. Your study will be closely related to practice in state-of-the-art laboratories—often on an industrial scale. As a first step you will learn the mathematical-scientific basics as well as those of chemistry and engineering. This will be complemented by insights into basic technical operations as well as mechanical and thermal process engineering procedures.
The radio alarm starts our day. The microwave quickly heats up our lunch. Text messages bring us together in the evening at short notice. It is almost impossible to imagine life without everyday electrical "helpers" and modern communication technology. Components of communication and information technologies are behind the control of these processes and technical systems. Our Bachelor degree program in Automation Engineering/Information Technology focuses on the accumulation of control data, their transmission, employment and processing. In addition, you will work with simulating technical processes and their classification and effects.
