The Trossingen University of Music enjoys an international reputation that is shown through many different international partnerships it has been able to develop. The broad international environment provides a lively network of artistic activities and music pedagogical experiences.
The courses offered here distinguish themselves through their emphasis on practical experiences and individu...al possibilities. The project „Klassenmusizieren“ has been created in cooperation with different schools and with the Villingen Schwenningen Music academy.
The Trossingen University of Music undertakes many outstanding musical activities. These range from contemporary chamber music to large concerts with choirs, orchestras as well as music and motion theatre productions. As a result our activities in the Bodensee region are a significant part of the cultural identity for the entire region. Through partnerships with the „Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspielen“ and the „Südwestdeutschen Philharmonie Konstanz“, the Trossingen University of Music offers to its students additional concert opportunities.
The study options are enhanced by international projects, courses and workshops, as well as scientific symposia. These particularly enhance both the ‘Rhythmics’ and Early Music departments.
These projects are meant for students, as well as for people who already finished their studies – lifelong learning (LLL) is becoming more and more important.
In partnership with the IzM of the Frankfurt School of Music and the SWR, the Trossingen School of Music offers the highly esteemed „OFF-Program“ for all students of composition in Germany as part of the Donaueschinger Musiktage.
This course is only eligible for students who have finished a performance degree and passed the entrance exam held before a jury of Trossingen University of Music professors.
The postgraduate performance program is restricted to exceptionally talented students. The program emphasises on repertoire studies, preparing students for entering into the performing concert life, and on participation in competitions. Next to concentrating on the chosen major subject, an increased ability to work independantly is expected from students.
Trossingen lies near the Black Forest in South West Germany. It is only one hour drive from Trossingen to Lake Constance, Stuttgart, Freiburg and Zurich. Other airports close to the city and within good transport connections are Basel and Strasbourg.
The Stuttgart Central Railway Station (Hauptbahnhof) is part of the ICE, EC and IC network and located in the centre of the city. You can continue your journey from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof with the municipal rail lines (S-Bahn) S2 or S3 (no changes necessary). The Trossingen University of Music offers students a comprehensive curriculum.
Undergraduate courses with a wide variety of different profiles and specialities are available through the Bachelor?s of Music program. We also offer further study options such as our Master of Music, Master of Arts or Soloists courses.
In Germany, the academic year consists of two semesters: a winter semester from October to March, and a summer semester from April to September. The entrance examinations in Trossingen take place twice a year (normally in February/March and in June/July). The courses begin in the subsequent semester.
The requirements for admittance to the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen are basically the same for German and foreign students. However, all foreign students have to meet the following additional requirements: because most courses are given in German, applicants have to provide proof of knowledge of the German language. Also, applicants have to provide proof that they are capable of financing their studies.
Please note: the following information applies only to candidates who are applying for full-time study. Regulations regarding application and residence are different for exchange students (e.g. Erasmus, California exchange program) or scholarship holders, who intend to spend only a limited amount of time in Trossingen. This also applies to students who are enrolled in the Continuing Education Program.
