A warm welcome to the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau - University of Applied Sciences Zwickau, on behalf of all our staff. We are a university devoted to Technology, Economics, Arts, and Life Sciences, comprising of 8 faculties and around 50 different degree programmes.
We are dedicated to making a positive impact on the world and remaining at the forefront of research. Our main focus... is on mobility, with projects such as developing plug-in systems for electric public transport, using data glasses in production, and understanding language to increase international intercultural competence, to name but a few.
The WHZ has three main locations: Zwickau, Reichenbach and Schneeberg. We continue to invest in state-of-the-art facilities, including ensuring our Zwickau campus library remains one of the finest in Germany.
We seek to provide a first class educational experience for students in all aspects of their studies, from Bachelor and Masters degrees, to the traditional German Diplom. Having good student-teacher ratios helps ensure our students reach their full potential.
The WHZ attracts around 4,500 students from across the world. We help students develop a range of skills essential for future employment and provide many opportunities to make the most of their time with us.
The WHZ has good global partnerships both to other universities such as in China and America, and to national and multinational companies, like Volkswagen and Audi, giving students the chance to gain some great experience, equipping them for life after university.
An investigation by the magazine UNICUM came to the conclusion that Zwickau is the second-cheapest city in Germany to study in. The things that were compared were rent, cost of food and clothing, educational supplies and transport in 123 places of study in Germany. In Zwickau students have to raise about €574 a month on average to cover their living costs – half of what students in many other places pay.
Zwickau, the city of automobiles and Robert Schumann, has a redeveloped and renovated city centre with attractive shops and pedestrian areas. On top its urban flair Zwickau also offers lots of green space: the Schwanenteich and the Mulde-Paradies (directly on the river) are inviting places for cycling, jogging or simply relaxing. And within 30 minutes’ drive you’re in the Ore Mountains – a great destination in both summer and winter. Accommodation isn’t a problem here either: Students have the choice between a hall of residence, a flat-share or even their own flat or house – all to be had at affordable prices.
Those who’d like to stay will have loads of opportunities in Zwickau and the rest of West Saxony: Our graduates have a wide variety of prospects in business, industry, commerce and the health sector. They are in great demand not just by the WHZ’s large partners – such as VW Sachsen GmbH – but also in the supply industry and in many small and medium-sized firms. The chances of getting a well-paid job are better than ever.
The WHZ’s university sport offers students an exclusive range of sporting activities. A brand-new gym belonging to the university is also available for your use.
You’re not really a sportsperson, but are more inclined towards music? No problem – the WHZ also has a university choir.
Formula student, a venture without equal in the world, was established as a construction competition. Student teams construct and manufacture a single seat, technically sophisticated race car and compete against other teams around the world at racing events.
The first German team was formed in 2000 and the first race car from Zwickau started in 2006. The team now consists of around 60 students. The construction and manufacture of the race car take place in the departments of power train, suspension, frame and body, electric and electronic. The departments of Finance, Marketing and Public Relations are responsible for the economic aspects of the project. The WHZ Racing Team is supported by different partners from industry.
Application-oriented research will continue to make a decisive contribution to addressing the major societal challenges and provides answers to scientific, economic and social questions. Our excellent research activities are based on the existing diversity and competence of the different sciences and on partnership-based internal and external networking.
With the magazine Campusforschung [campus research], we would like to expand the showcase of our research achievements and provide comprehensive information on current research activities. You will find a short version of each article in English. With this we want to reinforce our goal for increasing internationality.
In addition to classical management techniques in the field of personnel management the emphasis in this masters’ course is on conveying more complex contents in the fields of methodology and health sciences. Seminars on negotiation and conflict training and on ethical management practice are also intended to promote personality development. In the practical module and in your master’s thesis you will deal with concrete projects with a strong relationship to practice, which will be conceived and presented in a scientific manner.
