The journey of Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) began in the year 2005 by a group of ambitious academics with aspirations to provide high quality education both nationally and internationally. The first step in this direction was to take over an ailing engineering Institute, the Jagannath Institute for Technology and Management (JITM) in one of the most challenging triba...l districts of Odisha and one which was considered to be a left-wing extremist affected area. Subsequently, JITM was transformed into Centurion University of Technology and Management in August 2010, through an act of Odisha Legislative Assembly. It became the First Multi-Sector State Private University in Odisha.
From the inception, Centurion University"s DNA has been “Shaping lives and empowering communities”. The University has focused on ‘hands-on’, ‘experience based’, ‘practice oriented’ learning that makes a difference through appropriate and relevant innovation and action research. While promoting Nano, Mini and Micro Enterprises, the University works toward learning experiences that are ‘quantifiable’, ‘sustainable’, ‘scalable’ and ‘replicable’.
The University has five campuses and a number of social entrepreneurial outreach wings that, along with collaborating institutions and networks, form its ecosystem. The campuses are located at Paralakhemundi, Bhubaneswar, Rayagada, Bolangir and Chatrapur which house a number of Schools. They are: M. S. Swaminathan School of Agriculture, School of Allied Health Sciences and Paramedics, School of Architecture and Planning, School of Basic Sciences, School of Engineering and Technology, School of Management, School of Media and Communication, School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, School of Vocational Education and Training and the Institute of Knowledge Societies.
Centurion University is a State Private University and is empowered to award degree as specified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 22 of the UGC Act 1956. In pursuance of Section 8 and 9 of the Centurion University of Technology and Management, Odisha Act, 2010, the Centurion University is allowed to set up its campus/centres in other States of the country for furtherance of its objectives in conformity with the UGC Regulation.
Government of Odisha has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Centurion University to operate outside Odisha, subject to UGC conditions. bAndhra Pradesh Government has issued NOC to Centurion University, Odisha as well as approved its campus in Andhra Pradesh.
Centurion University, being a full-fledged State University, does not need any prior approvals from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for its courses. Centurion University has all the legal approvals for courses like Pharmacy and Architecture or any other course where such approvals are mandatory.

A group of scholars left Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar took up the challenge of rebuilding an ailing institution in Gajapati district, which has now become the most preferred destination of aspiring engineers and management graduates.
The University through its social outreach entities (Gram Tarang) will strive to deliver experience based learning and be a catalyst to create nano-mini-micro entrepreneurs who would add real time value to the society.
