The Government of West Bengal has established the Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University under the Act passed on the floor of the State Legislative Assembly of West Bengal in the name “West Bengal Act XXI of 2012” & “ The Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University Act 2012” vide Kolkata Gazette No WB(Part-III)/2012/SAR-32 dated 16th August 2012.
The first academic session will commen...ce from this year. It is proposed to start with six subjects, viz. Bengali, English, History, Philosophy, Geography and Hindi in Post Graduate level. Admission notification will be published in this web site and in daily newspapers in the middle of June 2013. A Certificate Course in Spanish Language will be introduced in this University.
Total examination system and syllabi have been prepared on the basis of standard international credit system so that credit transfer is possible from one corner of world to another part. This will facilitate the students to transfer from one university to another university easily in the world.
Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University, A has been named after the great social reformer Thakur Panchanan Barma. Panchanan Barma, also known as Thakur Panchanan and Roy Saheb, was a Rajbanshi leader and reformer from Cooch Behar. He established Kshatriya Sabha in order to inculcate Brahminical values and practices among the people from Rajbanshi community in this region in particular, and in Bengal in general.
Ever since its inception Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University has thrived to cater to the needs of the aspiring students who are the future of our country. This University is named after the great Rajbanshi leader and social reformer Panchanan Barma also known as Thakur Panchanan and Roy Saheb.
It is a great privilege and honour to be a part of the mission to make Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University a name to reckon within the academic fraternity by giving a strong impetus to creating an environment of knowledge application and holistically inspiring students to become eminent leaders of tomorrow. Our challenge is to help to generate ideas that will benefit society, and to educate and train people to work in fields where they will be valued both for their specialised knowledge, and for their ability to research, communicate and solve problems.
We have 30700 students (approx.) of whom 29400 students (approx.) are undergraduate students studying in fifteen colleges affiliated to Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University and 1300 students (approx.) are post-graduate students of our University. We are prepared to accept new challenges and make our University a well-known educational centre of knowledge generation, acquisition and dissemination.
We believe that the rigours of the contemporary world will require knowledgable professionals who could withstand the dynamics of the fast-changing world.
