Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, popularly known as GITAM, was founded in 1980 by an inspired group of eminent intellectuals and industrialists of Andhra Pradesh. Our innovative, collaborative and multidisciplinary approach helped us achieve an unrivalled position among the universities of the nation. Driven by the obsession to set a benchmark in higher education, GITAM has been steadily updating its programmes, simultaneously upgrading its infrastructure.

GITAM has Gandhi in its name. Gandhi was inspired by the Gita. GITAM is inspired by Gandhi. Gandhi learned from the Gita that the ultimate goal of the human quest is liberation. The true spirit of education, we learn from Gandhi, is a liberation of the mind. For this reason, we believe that education is the best equalizer of all. It frees us from the prejudices of color, creed, and caste. It broadens one’s perspective from the narrowness of ‘I’ to the inclusive ‘us’. It lifts us to reach heights of excellence. This is the kind of education that GITAM is committed to promoting. GITAM seeks to provide the necessary support system to enable its students to become scholars, scientists, engineers, leaders, and, above all, complete persons. We would like our teachers to be role models as truth-seekers and torchbearers leading our students to learn not only what is known but also explore the treasures hidden and discover and disseminate knowledge that would enrich the humankind.
GITAM is spread across three states. We have lovely campuses with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Visakhapatnam. We are proud that each campus is beautiful in its own way. Here in Visakhapatnam, our picturesque campus is located in Rushikonda, literally the hill of the sages. Facing the sea in front and surrounded by hills on the sides, the serene setting is the place where technocrats are trained, managers are made and scientists are shaped.
We expose our students to humanities and social sciences so that our engineers do not function as heartless robots, but serve as mindful citizens; our scientists harness the natural resources without harming the environment, preserving and sustaining it so that it will sustain us; our leaders are not led by popular sentiment, instead they mould the public mind for the good of all. We instruct in yoga and expose our students to varied thought systems of the world. GITAM boasts of the School of Gandhian Studies which carries out advanced research in the areas of peace and nonviolence.
