Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIITG) is an institution of National Importance under an Act of Parliament (THE INDIAN INSTITUTES OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP) ACT, 2017).
IIITG strives to be attentive to academic needs of every student. Classes are conveniently scheduled between 9 A.M. to 5 P. M. Every class room is air-conditioned and has pr...ojection facilities. An Institute-wide Wi-Fi system provides Internet access throughout the institute.
The Institute shifted to its campus on July 2 2018. The campus is located on a 67 acre plot, 4 km from Guwahati airport, on the National Highway. Hostels for 400 boys and 100 girls are ready, as are 48 flats for faculty. A 9200 sqm Academic-cum-Administration building will house all the Institute’ activitities. Besides these buildings, there is a treated water supply system, an electric substation with backup generators, and a decentralised sewage disposal system.
We have a healthy student to faculty ratio. All Asst. Professors have PhDs. More details on the faculty are available elsewhere on this web site. We started a PhD programme in April 2015. We place a lot of emphasis on research. Already 13 sponsored projects of total value of Rs. 3 crores, are going on at the Institute.
Placement of the first two batches has been veery good. Currently, the average salary offer of the students of the second batch is about Rs. 6.5 lakhs. Almost all the students of the first batch are currently employed or pursuing higher studies. Two of our students of the first batch are enrolled in PhD programmes in the US: one at Carnegie Mellon University (CSE), the other at University of Texas Austin (ECE).

The academic year has been divided in to two semesters namely the MONSOON semester from July – Dec and the WINTER semester from Jan – May. The winter vacation period for students is generally in the month of December and the summer vacation period is from the beginning of May to the third week of July.
The student hostels are situated in the Campus itself. There are two hostels, one for boys with capacity of accomodating 400 students and the other for girls with capacity 100. Most of the rooms are single room with attached washrooms. There are a few Shared (amongst two students) rooms as well. Each hostel has a common Dining Space, Recreation room and manned with 24x7 security and backed with 24-hour power backup supply, lift-service and high-speed internet connection. IIITG provides 24x7 campus wide connectivity to its community. On campus, students can access high-speed (1 Gbps) LAN and Wi-fi. IIITG is part of National Knowledge Network (NKN), which ensures 1 Gbps connection.
The IIITG library is stocked with a good number of books and online journals to cater to the needs of the students, research scholars and faculty members of IIITG. The Library currently has 1,214 printed volume of Books and subscribes to the IEEE and ACM e-journal packages through which the users can get access to 218 journals (approx.) and 3698 conference proceedings (approx.). Users can access these online resources in their electronic devices i.e. laptops, tablets etc. since the library is Wi-Fi enabled . The library has a spacious and well-lit reading room.
Labs are of immense importance to study core engineering subjects like computer science or electronics and communication. At IIITG, the labs are well equipped with state-of-the art equipment and latest hi-tech gadgets. The lab assistants are experienced and guide the students with competence through both curriculum and research work. Our labs foster an atmosphere of independent research under the guidance of instructors. Further, students are allowed to perform experiments individually or in a group of two.
