Kakatiya University was established on 19th August, 1976 to fulfil the aspirations of the Telangana people for higher education. It is located in the historical city, Warangal, the erstwhile seat of the Kakatiya rulers. The founding of the University was in fact a historic event that heralded a new era in the realms of higher education of this region. The erstwhile Post-Graduate Centre of Osman...ia University was upgraded and named Kakatiya University. The University, began its journey as PG Centre Warangal in 1968 under aegis of Osmania university with only four Departments, viz. Telugu, English, Chemistry and Mathematics. The Departments of Physics, Botany, Zoology, Commerce, Public Administration and Economics were added later. The B. Pharmacy course which was started by Osmania University in 1974 was shifted to KU in 1975.
Transforming the University into a Centre of Excellence Ensuring Quality, Access, Equity and Values. Acquiring commanding heights in the field of Innovation, Knowledge dissemination, Cutting-edge Research, Competency building and Extension activities with Holistic approach for Societal needs.
The University is vibrant with research activities carrying out the projects sponsored by various funding agencies. As many as twelve departments of the University have been identified under DRSSAP, eight departments under DSCFIST, nine departments under UGC BSC NonSAP and two departments under DSTINSPIRE programmes. Kakatiya University established Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several universities and research institutes for collaborative research.
Giving utmost priority to the student services, the university has established Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Studies Centre, Coaching Centre for SC/ST and Minority Students for NET and other Competitive Examinations, Center for Women‘s Studies, Kakatiya Adhyayana Kendram, Students Welfare, Placement Cell, Centre for Foreign Relations and Consultancy Services, SC / ST Cell Yoga Centre, Centre for English Language Teaching , Computer Centre, Central Instrumentation Centre, University – Industry Linkage Centre and Consultancy Cell.
Kakatiya University has a spacious Central Library on the campus with a rich collection of about 1,54,000 books, 30,000 back volumes of research journals, 4000 Theses and Dissertations. It subscribes to 230 Indian and Foreign Journals. Researchers have free access to about 14 thousand research journals provided by INFLIBNET under ShodhSindhu project. Round the clock reading facility is being provided to the students through out the year. All the constituent colleges and departments were brought under Campus Network providing round the clock INTERNET facility.
The university has held its flag high in the domain of Sports and Games at national level competitions. It has hosted the InterUniversity National Youth Festival twice successfully. Social activities under taken by the National Service Scheme brought laurels to the University at the national level. In an effort to give impetus to the educational, research and faculty exchange programmes have been undertaken with foreign universities. The University has strong alumni associations with branches abroad and the NRIs are contributing generously for the development of the University.
Kakatiya University crossed the milestone of forty years and is poised to achieve greater academic excellence with dedication and commitment in the years to come. The Kakatiya University was first accredited with B+ grade in the year 2003. The University was subsequently reaccredited with ‗A‘ grade in 2009. It occupied 38th position in national level rankings by India TodayNielsen Survey.
