The Government of Andhra Pradesh established Nalgonda University in the year 2007 vide Government Orders in G.O.19/HE (UE-II) Department, dt: 13/3/2007 by suitably amending the Andhra Pradesh Universities Act 1991 under Section-3(1) in L.A.Bill No.4 of 2007. The establishment of this university is part of the vision of the Government of Andhra Pradesh to promote access, equity and inclusiveness... in Higher Education.
This University has been renamed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as Mahatma Gandhi University by amending the Schedule of Act 4 of 1991, which was published in the A.P. Gazette on April 28, 2008. The University Head Quarters were located in Nalgonda town during the reporting year 2010-11 and its permanent campus is being developed in 240 acres of land allotted to the University on the state highway (Nalgonda – Narketpally) at Anneparthy, 7kms from Nalgonda town.
Vision of the University is to become a trend-setter in the pursuit of academic leadership and act as a catalyst in the development of human resources of the region and the nation at large. The vision and mission are transformed in to reality by identifying the following focus areas:

• Dissemination, generation and advancement of knowledge through teaching and research.
• Undertaken to connect the youth to identify their roots and facilities are provided to acquire excellent education and professional skills.
• Designed to enable the students to explore knowledge and achieve specialization in the subject of their choice.
• Foster research orientation in students and faculty in basic and applied areas in all disciplines.
• Contribution to human resource development and capacity building to meet the specific requirements of the region.
• Facilitate smooth functioning and brings transparency and accountability in all university operations.
• Instrumental in social development and in social change. The students are inspired to contribute for social upliftment and growth of national Economy through engagement in community work and extension programmes.

Culture is the quality of cultivated mind. Innovation is the key of success and therefore growing research culture among student community is very important. Research which is an outcome, basically of innovative minds in the modern era, demands well equipped laboratories and infrastructure in scientific and technological development. Therefore the faculty members are encouraged to prepare research projects to attract funding from funding agencies. All newly recruited faculties responded to this call and submitted number of projects to UGC, DST, and DBT etc.
